My effort of M42 WIDE FIELD

Well it looked clear but carb results were coming back , but anyway this one is made up of ha for lum , ha for red , 45 subs at 60 secs , blue and green 30 subs at 60 secs the processed in Maxim and Photoshop

You're being a bit hard on yourself with that one Rog. The nebulosity extends really well and just squeezed in Running man. It was a nasty night and that is a very tasty image. Core looks good too.

Cheers CC i need some more work on my colour mixing , still not right , but had a few tips from a mate of mine so will hopefully improve as time goes by ehehheh .

Rog, wonder if the cyan colour is a shortage of red data in the faint bits as a result of relying entirely on Ha for the red. that's the problem I had with M33 although wouldn't have expected M42 to cause quite the same problem.

he gave me a set of values to put into Maxim Martin , cant rememberwhat they were ,as at work now , but i will try it , if it works i will pass that on to you ,

I know what you mean. They are chip and filter specific. I have them for the SXV H9 but guess the Atik is pretty similar

just a thought how do we know what colour is right? when i'm processing my pictures which pictures are best to rely on as a reference?

Richard they all vary i,m afraid, so hard to decide, just have to look at as many as you can on the net and decide what u like best and aim for that i like my core colour just the outer nebulosity maybe should be on the red brown side if ya know what i mean ,

I don't think that it's about colour, just detail. Loads of Hubble images are in false colour but they look stunning anyway. Detail I like and Rog. gets loads of that, but because you can't see his stuff visually (from where I live at least) it will remain a moot point.
