Hi everyone. I came across this forum when looking for reviews of a telescope i'd brought. Most users said take it back to argos so thats exactly what I plan to do tomorrow - if they take it back since its been opened.

Anyway, I also have a Celestron Powerseeker 127eq. Only tried it out once and got a good view of Jupiter. I did read that the eyepieces werent great and the same applies to the Barlow piece so where can I get some reasonably priced eyepieces to replace the ones which came with the Celestron? Also if i'm just using the eyepieces which came with the scope what should I be able to see fairly easily, depending on light pollution etc?

Hi Dubbs and welcome to the group :o

You can get some great s/h ep's from the for sale board here but you'll need 50 posts first before you can see the board. You also need to know what you're looking for, how you want to look at it (eg wide field or high mag), and how to extend your range of ep's.

I'd suggest 5mm or 6mm steps so if you have a 10mm and 25mm then maybe get a 15mm or a 20mm. Remember the higher the magnification the better the quality you need to go for (so you need to learn the brands).

Televues are allways good, Celestron Ultima barlow excellent, Baader hyperions are great for the price, William Optics Swans v.nice.

Check those on retail sites for an idea of new prices - s/h prices are usually around 50%-60% of those depending on age and condition of course. And don't exceed a magnification of 200x - UK skies ain't up to it very often.

Hope that helps :)

Hiya Dubbs and welcome to the forum :o

I would consider a kit if you've got the cash. Great value and a good range of EP's and filters to learn with... Eyepiece Sets - Revelation Photo-Visual Eyepiece kit

EDIT: In fact the Celestron kit might be better for your scopes focal length... http://firstlightoptics.com/proddetail.php?prod=CelestronEPkit

How much per eyepiece were you anticipating spending.

Eyepieces come in a range of qualities and prices.

Also how many?

Most will be plossl's, just a "standard" design that works well and is relatively easy to produce.

Prices range from about £30 to say £70-80. After that it tends to be either specialist or higher quality offerings. They can go to £400 a piece easily.

For yours, 127mm dia and 1000mm FL (F/7.9) I suggest nothing smaller then 8mm at this time. Don't be tempted by the idea of large magnifications. My feeling is that 8mm, 10mm, 15mm and 30mm would be good. Just depends as said on price and how many.

Hi guys, Im in Tipton, near Dudley. Had some more time with the scope and saw Jupiter again (even managed to see bands which surprised me) Just want to be able to see it a little bigger. Currently just using the 20x eye piece that comes with the scope as the 4mm piece just blurs the image - the barlow doesnt seem to do too much either!!

Plumped for the Revalation kit mentioned above. Is there anything else (a single specialist eyepiece for example) I should be on the lookout for? The family and I love viewing the moon and Jupiter too, the filters with the aforementioned kit should hopefully improve the views of the moon and colour definition of Jupiter. Havent managed to see much else yet but typically because Ive been on holiday from work all week the weather round here of an nighttime has been terrible lol!!!
