I don't think a separate group is a good idea - I 'm not much of a tweaker but I enjoy and learn from reading the tips from others but if they're posted in a group then they wouldn't appear in "new posts" so I won't see them unless I join the group which tbh i don't really have any interest in doing. what is the actual benefit of a "group"? why are dobs "special"? where will it all end? why not have eq groups and goto groups and pillar mounted groups, obsy groups etc etc etc?

rant over.

I do wonder whats the benefit of "specialist" groups .. perhaps its because they wont get replies like these ;)

I can see the point of regional groups for arranging observing sessions etc...

er, yes but if there hadn't been a proposal for a specialist group there wouldn't have been a reply like that...;)

It would be a shame if the help and support for dob owners(me included) is lost to a members only group. I don't see the need for any particular type of scope group. Groups by location is a good idea, but to segregate by scope design makes no sense. Anyone read Lord Of The Flies?

That's my point Rich, what would the benefits be?

I'm a first time dob owner who still hasn't had a chance for first light, and if joining the group would in any way benefit me more than the existing forums are, i'd sign up in less than a heartbeat. But i can't spread my online time any thinner than it already is, that's why i said "Please enlighten me if i'm missiing something". It wasn't meant as a sarcastic comment, it was a sincere question. I'm not in any social groups and honestly have no idea if there would indeed, be any benefits.
