My first star party have I missed anything out....

Doc

Recommended Posts

Just had a test run to see if scope would fit into my little Fiat Grande punto and the 16" LB fitted fine even with the big wheels it now has.

As Salisbury in August is my first star party I thought I'll make a list. Have I left anything out?

No bins in there, not enough beer, no table and chair, and I would add a power pack/tank if you have one.

Arthur

Thanks Arthur.

I forgot about the table and chairs.

I'll take some black bags for rubbish.

And beer goes without saying, I'll make plenty of room in my car for that.

something to cook on if you are bringing a kettle

pan to cook your bacon and eggs in the morning

cool box with masses of ice packs to keep the beer cold

A peg puller for removing pegs when you leave (cheap and very useful)

Water container (for water!)

Pump for your air bed (electric ones that run from the car cigar lighter are really easy)

Ground sheet pegs (these are neat little plastic pegs with rounded tops that fit flush with the ground - Groundsheet Pegs - Yeomans Outdoor Leisure)

I would also plan to have some sort of insulation between you and the air bed. The air in an air bed has a very low specific heat capacity and as a result will heat up/cool down pretty quickly. On a cold night the airbed can get suprisingly cold. I use a quilt.

I hope this helps.

Mick - you are so funny...good list. Quite by co-incidence, was just about to start my "list brain" for Salisbury. I'm a virgin in this star party lark and need all the protection I can think of

So far its:-

Scope

EP's

Teabags

Beds to sleep on (x 2)

Running Gear

English Heritage cards to get into Stonehenge (just in case)

Astronomy stuff to read

Red Lights (I have plenty from bikes)

Lights to read by

Radio

Earphones

Bottle opener

Beer

Money

Energy Bars " x plenty"

Glasses

Contact lens fluid

Chairs

Stuff to clean me with

Mbl

charger

Double adaptors

Extension Lead

Groundsheet (one of those big builders jobbies)

Sleeping bag

Clothes

Plasters

Heachache cures

Water

Cups

Black bags

Rucksack

Bino's

Battery charger + batteries

Camera

and finally

Dr Potts infamous "get out of my line of sight" anti-cloud device.

Have I forgotten anything ?

I'm thinking of making two trips...:)

And then again, I have to remember to leave early on Friday night to go home to pick up my triathlon gear ready to compete on Saturday morning.

Clearly, I'm up for a winning performance ! (yeh..right)
