Telescope Service

Can anyone recommend a reliable telescope servicing company, preferably NOT Orion Optics. I think that by the end of this season mine will need a good scrub and I haven’t really got the confidence to take it on myself

Mainly yes, It’s been a while since it was last cleaned ( if in fact it was cleaned) so I’ll not touch it this winter but I think it’ll need doing in the spring/summer

It is not as difficult as you think to clean the mirror, there are plenty of tutorials showing step by step instructions. I did mine for the first time early this year and found it very easy.

After watching a few video tutorials and reading a similar number of threads on here, I cleaned my 14" mirror myself. Really isn't that difficult a task if you are methodical

I dreaded the thought of cleaning my mirror, but it turned out to be a doddle!  Now I clean once per year.

Good for you, I’m sure you will find it more satisfying than getting someone else to do it. If you run into any problems there are plenty of members her to help you.

When you are getting ready to do it make sure you have a good supply of DISTILLED water - not de-ionised. They are different things.
