Hello from Nottingham - Anyone got a clear sky they could lend me?

Hi all,

Just got my explorer 150 PL for Christmas but as yet not a clear night sky to be seen. Anyone else just started out and if so what have you seen up to yet? Anything you would recommend?

M42 is working it's way up at the moment so go for that you won't be disapointed.

Hi Doc and Phillc,

Hopefully we will have some more luck over the next couple of weeks. Can't wait to see some stars & planets through a proper scope. I had one previously which was 75mm and the mounts were hanging off. Sufficed to say I saw next to nothing and when I did the scope had moved after about a nano second!

I am from Rise Park near to Bulwell but my girlfriend is from Stapleford originally. Did you ever go to the Nottingham Astronomical Society? I am thinking about going to pick up the tricks of the trade.

I normally travel into derbyshire with the camper van in search of darker skies.

Hi John,

I have been thinking about going into Bestwood Park on top of the hill that overlooks Hucknall when the clouds clear. I'll let you know if it gets decent skies there. It should be pretty good judging by its height. You can see to the city centre looking the other way too.

like you just joined, unlike you have great skies at present although -4c at present. Also lacking in experience with scopes & more comfortable with binos but that needs to change, hence the forum!

Spoke too soon, after a weeks wait I finally managed to have a look last night. I observed Pleiades, the moon and Venus. Mighty impressive even in less than optimal conditions too.
