My first California Nebula (NGC 1499) image

I've seem some great images of this nebula but somehow it has never really appealed to me, in someways it is a bit of a spodgy smear, a bit as if the great celestial creator slipped a bit with his paint brush.  Anyway, it was well positioned so I thought it would work well with my widefield set up.  It was captured over 2 nights during our recent "heat wave", 1 night for Ha and another for RGB

ASI 1600 pro with Canon F2.8 200mm lens.  

Baader 7nm and RGB filters

CGEM mount

Ha 30x5mins gain 140 offset 40  RGB each 100x30 secs gain 21 offset 10

Captured with SGP.  Calibrated and combined with Maxim.  Processed in PS

I like it. I know what you mean about the nebula but it looks at its best when not cropped by the framing. Given enough room, as here, it looks like a celestial hammock, all nice and fluffy!

An excellent image Martin,  my eye is always pulled to the large circular structure often seen in deep images.

Wonderful image. I hope I can get my 200mm F/2.8 trained on that target soon. I will have to make do with my 550D, however, so probably won't get anywhere near this gorgeous result

It's a bit of a mystery object, one idea is that it's an old faint planetary nebula which just happens to line up with NGC 1499.

Very nice Hammock, much better than S. American ones.   No wonder gods on extrem chilling.

Very, very nice.  I do like this target, though I've yet to try it myself, and I agree with Olly that it needs some space around it as you have hear to really show it off.
