Is my Skyscan upgrade faulty?

I have just noticed tonight that when I am slewing to a target and both motors are running that the power LED flickers. Sometimes it appears to be blinking on and off but sometimes it does appear to flicker on and off. The power supply I am using is rated at 5amps so it's not dropping out due to low power.

Anybody seen this before?

Any way of checking for volt drop whilst slewing Craig? Does the flickering occur with only one motor running, or only with two,?

I understood the flickering to be a supply issue, but only from what others have said.

Only does it when both motors are running. I will take out my multimeter tonight (Actually might be tomorrow) and see what the voltage looks ike when slewing.

I get that if i use a 12v battery that is not fully charged but if i use my psu then i do not get the problem.Does the led flash when only 1 motor is slewing ???

i have similiar experience with my HEQ5 Pro, the led sometimes flickers quite fast, other times a steady on/off...always thought it was down to mount slewing or tracking,etc??? havn't noticed any side effects

i am using a 110Ah leisure battery so power should not be the issue, but it could be the rather flimsy cable im using to power the mount i split in half to attach crocodile clips to!

I had the same problem and bought a new lead from Astronomiser - solved the issue straight away.

I just cannot see how it can be the lead it is surely not that flimsy that it cannot carry 3 amps! I will try one of the ome made cables I have and see if that makes any diffrence.

I've seen a twin cable with thick walled insulation, but the conducters were 4x.014mm. Hopeless. On a long run they can drop a couple of volts, especially when the load is applied.

Can't you check the voltage on the handset? This should tell you if the lead is the problem. Personally I find that my 5amp PSU causes the LED to flicker rapidly (very slightly) as well - even when not under load. I think this is because it outputs about 13+/-1 volts in a sinusoidal fashion! Mount seems to work fine though. With the Skywatcher battery pack, low voltage was indicated by very slow flashing of the LED , not fast flickering.

If your power supply is OK then as the other guys say, its the cable, I had the same problem on my HEQ5 and a friends HEQ6. The supplied lead may look OK but its not.
