Cracking proms 9/717

The fab solar action continues today. The AR looks amazing in both white light and Ha, and there is one monster prom plus a number of others which are spectacular in their own right.

Quite busy today but managing a few looks when resting from my garden labours :)

Get out there if you can!

In white light this evening I could see the big spot 2665 with lots of small trailing activity and a big light bridge appearing to  go well into the umbra. Half an hour later it had split the umbra in two, turning through a right angle on the way. I don't know if it had changed this quickly or if it was improving conditions meaning I could just see more than I could at first.  The most action I've seen for some time.

I've just seen a news article that says "...THE Earth is at risk of being blasted by dangerous solar flares after a giant spot appeared on the sun...." along  with reference to Armageddon, etc.

It turns out to be talking about this very sunspot! Obviously there can't be much real news so they need a filler!
