Magic

Here we go then, John's being silly again (and talking in the 3rd person)

Completely covered with cloud today, however there were some holes in the Cumulus revealing Sol trying to poke through the thin Altostratus layer. So I had a go at it.

Now for the magic - Take 50 of these:

Feed 'em to Registax and you get these, never fails to amaze me.

Add a barlow and get this:

Turns out cloud filters aren't bad after all! :)

Magic indeed. I've often marvelled at those Cloud Filters when observing... As the faintest of whisps of cloud pass across the solar disc I often notice surface detail improving marginally through our Lunt before the really thick stuff takes up residence...

Have you tried the new range of rain filter, forget the cloud filters they are so yesterday!

I've got the rain filter going atm Alan, it's nowhere near as good as the cloud filter! Very poor contrast.

At last someone else has played "ignore the clouds" and won ... :icon_biggrin:

Too many people just give up when there's a bit of fluffy stuff getting in the way , waiting for hours of clear blue just results in frustration here in Blighty , as you found let the stacking even out the grey by treating it as you would noise in a nightime shoot and hey presto a 'clean' disc appears ... keep up the good work sir ... :happy6:

And keep pushing the envelope , you can take things to extremes and still get detail ... !
