Windows XP SP 3 ??

Anyone aware of any issues/concerns re installing the above with regard to the likely apps and s/ware we're likely to be running ??

Thought I'd ask B4 just blindly going ahead.

I use sp3 and all the usual astro programs work fine. Registax, Starry Night, Photoshop, VMA, Stellarium etc.

I Installed SP3 on my desktop, and my Laptop Karlo, and I have had no Issues with either

machine at all, or any hardware, peripherals or otherwise.

You could wait until more replies come in. That will guide you to a decision perhaps.

I believe there were some problems with SP3 when it first came out so i've not bothered to install it yet i'll wait a while until all the bugs are ironed out

I have it on 5 PC's & a laptop here, no problems whatsoever.

All the popular Astra programs work OK.

IIRC it creates a checkpoint (or whatever Microsoft call them) before it installs, so you could roll back if one of your astro apps doesn't like it. Not been a problem for me though.

Just make sure System Restore is turned on BEFORE you install SP3....just in case

I installed Service Pack 3 as soon as it was released and haven't had any problems so far

Do you have to manually installed SP3 or does do it automatically with the auto-update thingy?

Just make sure that antivirus, firewall, antispyware and pop-up stoppers are all turned off :-)

I've just downloaded / installed it, no probs and the lappy is running the same as before. Unfortunately I didn't read rosanellas post about turning the antivirus, spyware & firewall off first..... I think I have gotten away with it.

No problems here either, and I've installed it on a number of machines at work. I will say this though: it takes an age to install! Have a cuppa, do some reading, hang up the washing...then come back and it might have finished...

do you have to burn it to cd? or is there an exe that'll install it? (sorry for the questions, I'm a windows numpty).

Have it installed, no problems, but if you download the free sun Virtual Box software, and install Xp on that, you can test it without totalling your main machine first! (useful tip)

Just go here http://update.microsoft.com and select the "Recommended" updates button. You'll need to use Internet Explorer, for some reason Microsoft are a bit sniffy about Firefox.

Adobe doesn't like FF much either. I had to abandon version 9 upate.

Well I've installed it on both machines -no problems at all. I hadn't turned those things off either ie anti virus etc....

The install was part of the regular MS windows update, didn't have to go looking for it at all.

Updated my Laptop to SP3 last night - seemed to work okay after I re-entered the WAP key for my home wireless network. I'll know more when I get home tonight.
