Try October, ten continuous clear days and nights. Starhopping is such joy with so many stars. I took a couple of wide sky shots, but the constellations are so hard to locate !

It's a gamble and I don't recommend folk go there , unless they are prepared for bad weather and drink. My first foray with the Dob was 10 days and nights of rain. I got so fed up that I ended up looking at inverted sheep from the hall way, baaaa ! Not sure about next October yet, but the last two weeks look on the cards. 

Mull, Arran, Islam , Jura and the Outer Isles are splendid, but nothing beats the allure of the misty idle,
