whats the rule of thumb with dso and full/partial moon etc

You can however do some DSOs in RGB during a full moon, but they are the bright ones, like some Open Clusters as the stars can be imaged and you can dampen the moonlit background in processing without wrecking the target itself.

Hi. As a much cheaper alternative, I found that this works great. I can get 2 minutes @ ISO 800. Great for that orange sodium mush too. If you're front mounting on a camera, use a lens hood or make sure the moon is shielded from the front of the filter. Only a tenner. Worth it just to get in some practise rather than stay inside. HTH

**Oh and not aliexpress. It takes months to arrive. There are european resellers on ebay.
