can you take long exposures with the qhy5ii-l if so what software can used, i  have been trying ez planetary but it only seems to take vidieo or single frames

Even if you could mod, hack the camera to do long exposure, you would probably end up with more noise then its worth within a couple of minutes with out some kind of chip cooling.

Ezcap let's you take longer exposures. It came with the disk I got.

I tried a few times to use it as a normal ccd whilst waiting for my guide scope to arrive and haven't used it other than a guide camera since.

It has a very small field of view so unless your polar alignment is spot in it can be very difficult to locate your target.

Use sharpcap, you cand do very long exposures (a few minutes even), but you'll have to deal with the growing thermal noise.

geordie how do you get the longer exposures in ez cap  I can get say if i set the the exposure time to 20 secs @ 10fps i will get 200 single frames, i can't get one frame at a 20 second exposure or am i missing something.

RC i have tried sharp cap but the ascom  won't recognize the driver and start the program.

I apologise, it's ccdcap270 that came on the CD I received not ezcap. I only used it once and ended up uninstalling.

I used firecapture for my own lx experiments with this cam - though know that Torsten was threatening to remove support. If you used the ascom driver Nebulosity works well.

Update on where i'm at  I managed to get to connect to nebulosity, it takes longer shots and tells me its done it  but i cannot for the life of me get an image either daytime or night  is this an win 8.1  & also win 7 ultimate issue, iknow the camera works asi can get images with ez planetary but can't get long exposures
