I have seen a few people asking about this and found a few providers if anyone wants to look into them

http://www.dorrfoto.co.uk/Bags-and-Cases/Aluminium-Cases/Dorr-Pick-and-Pluck-Insert-Foam-for-Aluminium-50-Extra-Large-Case_485220.htm fits a 520 x 430 case

then these if you want custom size but dont know if they deal with public http://parotecsolutions.co.uk/products/interior-options/foam/pick-pluck-foam

then these guys http://www.easyfoam.co.uk/pick-n-pluck-foam.php at 22 x 14 (inches)

I need the top one for my case btw

Got to ask yourself the question though John, how much was your collection of black and green and is it worth protecting

It's a fair point Steve

My little lot are kept in a couple of the Maplin cases. I use a method where I don't actually remove any foam cubes but rather make depressions with them for the eyepieces. These pop back into their original position when the space is no longer needed so the foam in the cases has lasted a lot longer.

Items in a niche market will always command a higher price than we might think I guess.

Thanks again for the links.

It's a bit mad (not to mention hideously wasteful) when you can buy a new case including the pluck foam for less than the cost of replacing just the foam.  Come that day I think I shall just buy ordinary foam in pieces 20mm or so thick, layer them in the case and cut them myself.

I know, but I believe its a captive market. A cheaper option would be to buy layers of plain foam and cut by hand but that is a little more messy.

Hey, and don't shoot the messenger

Steve

Mrs JB reliably tells me that a hot knife will cut foam neatly and without hassle. (basically a knife blade attachment for a soldering iron)
