First attempt at the Sun 02.02.14

Hi All

bought myself a solar filter as getting fed up waiting for clear nights at the moment, was a bit windy to say the least so had a practice focussing etc & working out settings on camera, this is a single shot tampered with in PS, tried .avi but wasn't to great an came our a bit blurry. had a go at cropping the sunspots too.

settings were iso 100, frame speed 1/1000 on a D3100 & Solar Filter.

cheers luke, am looking forward to a less windy day next time i give it a go as you could see the turbulence in the air thru the scope making things look a bit wobbly

but was quite please with how things turned out specially for a single shot

Superb image. You even caught the granulation on the sun's surface. I would be very pleased with those pictures first or after many attempts. As others had advised, stacking will allow you to bring out more detail and reduce the noise.
