The Wide Field Camera rig is now operational. Consisting of a 6" steel pier in concrete with EQ6 on top, the wide field camera rig sits outside the main observatory giving better open views of the south & western horizons for wide field imaging.

Pictured here the pier has an 8" Newtonian on top, but the main intention is to use this unguided with DSLR & telephoto lens combinations.

very nice set up and great, great location. is this were you live ?

I do consider myself lucky to have such a nice spot. Unfortunately I can't be here all the time as work takes me away a lot :(

Here are some first light images from the new pier:

beautifull, i want to be your neighbor

The house next door has just come on the market........

Interesting pier top.

Is the plan to keep the EQ6 permanently mounted, or will you take it inside?

The wooden pier top is a temporary measure until the turned metal pier top is made. I'm going to leave it where it is as the polar alignment is bang on at the moment. The photo below is 300s unguided through the 8" Newtonian.
