Size of moon compared to country or continent?

If the part of the moon we can see was flattened, what country/continent would be the equivalent size on earth?

The Moon is about 2000 miles in diameter, pick the continent of your choice.

Don't know about countries, but I reckon it would cover the north Atlantic with a little bit around the edges if you dropped it there.

Actually, a suitably knowledgeable person with far too much time on their hands could probably make a Google Earth overlay of the Moon and stick it wherever they wanted

Very roughly the moon has a diameter of 3500km.

Therefore a surface area of 4 * pi * r² = 38.5m Km²

Asia has an area of 45m Km²

Africa has an area of 30.3m Km²

When you're looking at craters on the Moon I always think it's worth looking them up to find out how big they are. Plato, for instance, which I was looking at yesterday, is about 63 miles in diameter. Which is about the same distance as between Exeter and Bristol.

Please don't tell me the rest of the landing sites were also the birthplaces of characters from "Thunderbirds" (Scott (Carpenter - Colarado), Virgil (Grissom), Alan (Shepard, New Hampshire), Gordon (Cooper - Oklahoma), and poor old John (Glenn - Ohio) the poor [word deleted] who gets stuck out on the space base) - that would be just too much of a conspiracy theory.... Next, people will be playing join the dots with the stars and coming up with pictures of things.....
