Red star within the Double Cluster in Perseus

I had a great night viewing in the back garden last night - one of the things I noticed was when observing the Double Cluster in Perseus pretty much right in the centre between both clusters was a small star which was as ruby red as I've seen any celestial body.

I have tried a little research today but haven't come up with any names- anyone else noticed this before and can illuminate me on what I've seen?

There are two yellowish stars in the middle of the cluster.

They have no names in Stellarium, so I cannot help you more than that.

I've seen this many times thanks to a heads up in Norton's Star Atlas. It lies in NGC 884, the lower of the two clusters.

There are several red giants in the Perseus Double Cluster. I haven't counted them, but they're clearly visible in my newtonion. None are named or numbered to my knowledge.

Depending on atmosphere and scope used, yes also noticed. There are a couple I saw around Cassiopeia , one or two are really noticeable, one is next to a very bluish star and really nice contrast, though not managed to ID them yet

Is it more red than the Garnet Star?

Can't say Monty not sure I've observed the Garnett star, obviously a bit more research required on my part. Thanks for the replies so far folks.

That would be pretty much the area I was observing it in but can't get a good look at the thumbnail on my ipad unfortunately.

Which one? There are at least two. Yes, those red stars add more beauty to this wonderful object but dark, transparent skies are needed to bring out the star colors.

Next time you're at the double clusters, head up half way to the end star of Cassiopeia.

You'll hit the stunning and overlooked Stock 2.

It's huge, with loads of colour,
