this is my new frac - Celestron 100mm f/9 ED Apo on CG5 with a Hyperion 8-24mm zoom in focuser.

and this is my SkyWatcher 200mm f/5 newtonian. N.B. no EQ5 anymore

I like the look of the ED - they are cracking scopes those 100's..

I think you've got all the bases covered with those two scopes Andrew. Looks like you are going to have the same issue that I have with the refractor though - eyepiece a bit on the low side at times !!.

I'm thinking about getting a half pillar extension for my mount - raises the whole lot up about 8 inches

john - yes! tripod legs right up and I'm not even at eye level with the EP when pointing at the horizon!

I've been thinking about putting some 8" concrete blocks under my tripod legs when I'm using it with the refractor. Should solve the height problem temporarily.

Nice looking scopes. What are you going to mount the 8" on? the CG5 looks too fragile.

The 8" will be more than happy on that. The mount head is externally identical to the EQ5 it's been sitting on for about 7 months. The legs are bigger.

As for piggybacking the C100 on the 200 and two cameras etc. etc. etc. Well, something's gotta change one day!

Those ED100's are fantastic 'scopes and look a lot better in black than in gold!
