Do any of these apps show comets?

Sky safari does. Think you need the plus or pro versions. The developers actually did an update to the app just so da2012 would show correctly. I've already looked panstarrs up so I know where it will appear.

Its not that expensive tbh. The basic one is a couple of quid, even the plus which will do for most is under a tenner even the pro is only 25 quid. Considering the amount that's gone into the programme I think that's really cheap

No plans - do you think android devices currently offer a viable platform for mount control, focuser control, guiding, image capture etc?

If on the other hand all you want to do is get data back and forth between an android app and a PC/laptop that is actually doing all of tbe above that is a different matter.

For instance I'm told there are already andriod apps that act as PC gamepads and that could therefore control EQMOD.

Also EQMODLX can receive/transmit LX200 commands via a windows com port and provide a 'protocol conversion' to ASCOM commands. I beleive the Southern Skies folks did something similar. Using that and a virtual serial port bluetooth connection should (in theory at least) allow android apps access to scope control albeit via a PC.

Chris.

I wa meaning fod those who are purely observers. Connect an android tablet via bluetooth and do alignment and pointing with an android planetarium app, no need for doing 3 star align with the handset, or trying to see the lcd screenbwhen the temperature is below zero!

But at least with the handset you can still use it with your gloves on in those sub zero temperatures :D

Ahh, but you can now get gloves that still allow you to use a phone/tablet touch screen - great invention :D :D

What settings did you have for the BT link ?

I have the tablet talking to the BT link but not to the mount, presume it goes through the synscan in external PC mode.

I think surprisingly you actually don't need PC mode - try it in normal mode. If it doesn't work come back and I'll go and fish the bits out from the shed and check the settings on the box for you (I'd do it now but its lashing down with rain!!)

Does anyone find any adapter like these for the same price?

I searched the most common places, without any luck. :(

I bought one of these http://www.ebay.co.u...=item337f61c44b - delivered next day :-)

The instruction here are quite good - http://www.ebay.co.u...=item3a7d9a79b3 I downloaded hyperterminal and used that to change the baud rate to 9600 to match android by following the instructions. You need to be careful with the various switches, so follow the instructions carefully.

Good morning StarGazers,

I was hoping you could help me with a following issue: does any of the Android apps show the ecliptic grid? I hoped that Stellarium does (PC version has that option) but it appears that it doesn't. Any ideas?

Thank you in advance,

p

Stellarium "mobile" does

Hi starnut,

No, not unless I'm so blind that I can't find it. I can see the equatorial grid and the azimuth grid, but not the ecliptic one... Unless, as I said, it's there but I can't see it?

Anyone out there with a note 10.1?

I'm thinking about the get one, and i won't buy it if it's only running SkySafary. I want to fully replace my laptop. So i would need these features:

- full control of the mount

- webcam recording

- Canon dslr remote control

So i thought it is a no go, but after searching a bit, i found these links:

Anyone tried this, or planning to do it?

Ok, i found out this is a nogo because the ubuntu for android isn't a full ubuntu, it's just a ubuntu port for android. So you won't get the full driver support and without that the webcam recording and guiding won't work.
