Dew shield

Is it worth using a dew cap/ shield on an 8in reflector? i use one most of the time but i,m sure i read somewhere that it didn't require one as the mirror is so low down in the tube ?

If you have one then its good to use it, every little helps

Good question. Even if the primary is farthest away, how likely is it the secondary will be affected?

It will help stop the Secondary misting up, and there by save you poking a hairdryer (warm setting) through the focus tube to demist it, i don't allow the hairdryer to touch the scope there could be static ect....

Definitely helps stopping the secondary fog up, and also when it's really bad the inside lens of the EP.

Definitely worth using I use mine for the reasons already mentioned ( secondary misting and keeping out stray light). It only takes a couple of seconds to fit so seems daft not to use it especially at a dark site ( no power for the hairdryer).

I use one on my 200P, definately a help with stray light etc, and also keeping the dew off the secondary, I bought a Celestron C8 dew shield, fits my scope perfectly.

I use one on my 200 p dob too, mine was made from a £5 camping mat from Wilkinsons!

£5..? Bargain time, they're currently £5.98!!!! (I run a Wilkos in Kent) We also sell the self adhesive velcro for under £2 which works a treat (although I do reinforce mine with some needlework). You can pick it up from just about anywhere tho... :-)
