HEQ5 Pier top

Hello all

Received my pier top today made by Gary (gary1968) here on SGL. What a lovely piece of work, well finished and a very solid lump!

Here it is with my mount on

The package also came with some fixing bolts and even some instruction for fixing it to the pier.

Well happy:) and looking forward to using it once I have moved back home to Oz in a couple of months.

I have had a pier adaptor made by Gary for a while now.

It is a great adaptor and so SOLID.

Well worth the price.I would highly recommend it for anyone thinking of installing a fixed pier...

I have the EQ6 version in my obsy, and it's a great, simple design, that just works!

There's certainly a "gap in the market". It is the most frustrating of things - One cannot EASILY make azimuth adjustments to a pillar-mounted equatorial. Whatever the VIRTUES (slow development, frankly?) of modern mounts, I cannot help but recall "Sir Patrick's" (past) reference to the *notorious* "Pillar and Claw Mount".

I second the HEQ5 mount made by Gary. It's a really great piece of kit, sturdy and well made.

Thanks for the kind words folks, mine too is solid on it's 100x100mm steel box section pillar...... I just wish swmbo would allow a obs to built around it...... lol
