  1. been playing with my new scope, now then i have polar aligned it, used Capella has first reference star, dialed it in on ra and dec circles but.... when i try go to say Jupiter the dec is miles out!? it seems to be about 5 degrees out!!! the longitude scale is 60 degrees and i am at 53 degrees north, the scope is deffo on Polaris. Cheap mount or what? don't get much viewing time in!! i am trying to find other stuff with setting circles. Rosette nebular, last 2 nights!! still have not found it between Procyon and Betelgeuse 15 degrees diagonal apart!! tracked all way along nothing. scopes good for detail, but has small aperture feild of veiw. bring out the dob!!!
  2. http://spaceweather.com/ for solar activity if you can understand it!!
  3. hi Isabelle, long time no see, yeah ive seen mars very disappointed just a orange blob no detail even had various filters on even on, with a maksutov 1250mm x 9mm e.p! yours Paul.
  4. Well ive had the full regalia out tonight, sky watcher 90mm mak out , heritage 130p dob,out and sky watcher 15x70 bins out and the revelation eye kit out. Now then the mak has the power but the contrast is poor on high power, say 9mm 1250 focal length, but heritage 130p has good field veiw but you have to use x2 barlow and 15mm ep 650 focal length for Jupiter quite sharp though.. Trouble with heritage dob is that the focuser his screw helix type, and there is a bit of slop in it. Pliedies does not fit in ep even with 32mm projection in mak but heritage 25mm ep does nearly. Went to mizar to split it with mak, easy with 20mm ep in, heritage again x2 barlow and 9mm full power and pushing the dob to limit. oh yeah trying to master the setting circles on mak eq1 what a pain, fumbling around in dark undoing the dec knobs etc, and the ra scale is a mile out only 10 minutes increments!! polar aligned first, scale red 60 degrees, instead of 53 degrees for my long. The dob is easy to move by far, and i can cover a lot of area, i got the mak for the setting circles so i can find other stuff!!
  5. ive put the mak 90 on the dob mount has its easier to grab and go, moon very good in cresent, nice detail and sharp, managed to spot Venus!! :) on roof tops, clouds kept rolling over it, ISS on approach at 4.54pm sw to east. jupiter now high in the sky.

  9. Hi all, had the sky watcher 120 evostar out, on to Saturn, struggling to get a sharp image, mars was bright and flaring slightly on one edge, a star would not pin point but sea gulling. E.P seemed to have a bloom round object! It was -1 mind you and a bit Dewie, any one else had this, this morning or is my scope faulty!! hope not, it was second hand, it is under warranty.

  11. I finally dragged my self out of bed this morning being Friday at 5 am, it was clear!! got the heritage dob 130p out got on to mars.... well what can i say... disappointed was the word, had to go to full power x144 9mm x2 barlow and it was just a orange ball no detail it was quite bright though. i was thinking on the lines of Jupiter size and brightness, any way got Saturn in low east, rings are nearly side on now, no moons showing, then the clouds rolled in, oh ISS came over on slow approach at 5.30 followed with scope until disappeared in east.
  12. there electric bills must be though th roof!! with the lights on.

  14. hi, yeah i managed to see it other night, just above houses here in York, it was rising about 9 pm in east, Betelgeuse was flickering all colors. better view in 15x70 bins than scope, nice to see orion again.
  15. Had heritage 130 dob scope out last night, it was actually dark at tea time for a change and not the Grey sky we have had, Jupiter good, Andromeda still just a Grey smudge, some nice clusters up on Cygnus and Cassiopeia, pliedies nice, but...... then how many aircraft flying above York!! seem to be circling? must have been queuing up for Leeds?! and then the halogens were on!!! in peoples gardens, pain in the butt, out with the sheets on the washing line!! to block the light, and then the clouds rolled in! oh great! packed up and came in at half seven.
  16. hi Isabella. thats ok, its been low cloud over here in York UK last few days, looks like i wont see YU 55!! something else we will have missed, all the previous meteor showers were blocked out by cloud cover here. i have posted a link for live YU 55 on a blog. yours Paul.
