  1. This was a fun setup, C925 and Tak FC100DC side by side on an Ercole mount, very portable and quick to setup. The frac gives widefield and finder capability, the C925 the aperture and high power/resolution. Keeping it simple is a good plan. Alternatives may be something like the iOptron AZ Pro Goto
  2. Personally I think you need more than x120 ish to observe planets to the full, not necessarily huge amounts more but x150 and x180 are useful. Do you suffer badly from floaters? Have you considered binoviewing? I do that all the time now and much prefer it.
  3. I would go for the first one on your list, which is an ortho. I have the Baader Genuine Ortho version of this and it is excellent.
  4. Hi Jam1e1, Our Group went to Bignor on Friday, was pretty good. Where do you normally go? Ranmore? I’m at SGLSP in Lucksall for next new moon. May be able to sneak another session in next week but probably not a very late one. Stu
  5. They all count Paul, and you will get fantastic regular use out of your 8” I’m sure.
  6. Posted elsewhere, but now I have a dob (actually two) again, I thought I would rejoin this thread This is my Sumerian Alkaid 14”, with f4.5 John Nichol mirror in it. Lovely compact scope.
  7. Wowsers! Bet that will be mind boggling when finished!!
  8. I have the original field version which is excellent. The additional drawings in the new version look fab though, and not so bad a price in comparison.
  9. This arrived during the week, I know I need it for something.....
  10. That looks excellent Stephan, not cheap though I bet!
  11. I agree with that Ben. The views with a widefield long focal length eyepiece in theae scopes will be lovely, but as you say, very back heavy! The 24mm Pan makes a very good match with it weight-wise though as you say, and still gives plenty of sky to enjoy.
  12. Brilliant, thanks John. I've been meaning to do something like this for a while as I do change between Ercole and GP mounts every now and then. This will make it much easier.
  13. Handy having knobs rather than the Allen bolts, makes changing mount much easier. Are they a John special?
  14. Sale is nothing to do with me by the way, I just noticed it a little while ago. I have just joined a similar club which is exciting, I will post about it separately when I get the chance to take some pictures.

    smisy's smartphone pictures

Have a look at this thread, just a bit of fun really but some useful stuff about smartphone imaging. This my M42 attempt is on there, plus a decent one of Jupiter. https://stargazerslounge.com/topic/282996-the-inaugural-stupod-winner-announced/?tab=comments#comment-3097056
  17. That’s a shame. How short of infocus are you? Would getting a low profile 1.25” adaptor help?

    smisy's smartphone pictures

Some amazing shots there smisy. The Huawei does seem to be the smartphone camera to have currently.
  19. Thanks Peter. You’ve reminded me, I think I have the one on the right but the other might be worth a look next time we meet. Thanks again
  20. Let’s get something sorted then Peter! A bit of moral won’t go amiss from my end either
