  1. It’s starting to pop now Francis looks great so far, I’ve nearly got all the data I want on my first target with the 533, I’m on the deer lick galaxy and stephans quintet just made it into the frame I’m hoping the dither border doesn’t interfere with the quintet, I’m hoping to gather the rest of my subs tonight
  2. Blimey peter a whole new pc this image has cost you 😆, my 10 year old Samsung lappy running celeron would explode then! I’ve just got the asi 533 and even that is so different from the dslr I was using, but the low noise these new sensors give is a joy high dynamic range a decent full well, whats not to like
  3. Holy moly what a cracking image Peter! I can see the baby eagle in there too, excellent result, these new cmos osc sensors are excellent arnt they
  4. Right ok, my scope is the 130pds working at f4.5 and according to clear outside I’m in Bortle 5, I realise now I should of upped the gain to say 200 to see if the adu was higher, will have to check that next clear night, I’m just confused by comparing the adu that the dslr was giving me compared to my 533
  5. Looking good, any chance you can see what your adu value is on the background dark sky on one of your subs? I need to compare to my adu value with unity gain set, I need to see if my cam is working properly my 3min subs on deer lick galaxy seem abit dark with the histogram right over to the left, when I was expecting more to the middle as I’m not using a lp filter was expecting the sky glow to push the histogram more over
  6. In nebulosity it still shows of having max 65536 on the asi Must be just default of showing that with any camera
  7. Ok so I’m out out imaging the deer lick galaxy so the background will be dark As the galaxy is only smallish in my fov but I’ve set the gain to 100 and offset to 70, I have taken 3 min subs at f4.5 and my mean adu value for entire image is 5000? Is this normal for these cameras as my canon 1100d at iso1600 would be up at 20000ish? Im capturing in nebulosity but I had the same result in asi studio also I’m not using a lp filter either, any advice would be appreciated
  8. I tried a powered 10m usb repeater, gave me issues with guiding, I think the distance was too much and the guiding commands couldn’t keep up, went down to a 3m usb cable and the problem went away
  9. You had a night on a target? If so what was it and what gain did you use? I had a test on ngc7331 galaxy with a lp filter, gain 100 offset of 50 180 sec subs and my mean adu was 3500 I was expecting a higher value than that with gain 100 and 3 min subs, I’m interested in your numbers 😀
  10. I too have just got this camera and looking forward to a good night with it, I tried getting to -15 with darks but only managed down to -12 in our house, too warm in here will take some by doing it outside instead
  11. Well I managed to do it although I had to cut it into 4 inch wide strips otherwise I would never have done it! It’s as black as the ace of spades in there now, I also flocked my dew shield as and the outside of the focuser tube, I need some clear sky now to try it out
  12. Some good info there my material is being delivered tomorrow so I will have ago, I have already painted any shiny bits in there, I may flock the focuser tube also
  13. Bought some flocking from FLO and want to flock my 130pds, with the tube being narrow anybody got any tips and trick to flock this scope? As I Carnt get both arms in the tube like I could with my 10 inch how is it done with one arm😂
  14. So your average is lower than mine, that is to be expected as you have 10 second subs, but my 3 min subs only 1000 adu more in the background is confusing me, I always thought we should aim for histogram to be roughly 1/3 to the right? I tried the same 3 min sub is asi studio and got the same result so I don’t think it’s an issue with nebulosity. It may not be an issue at all and I’m making a mountain out of a molehill. I’m only comparing to my dslr, I selected ascom camera in neb and that brought up the ascom controls to set the gain and offset
  15. Can I ask what your mean adu value was per sub? I’m doing 3min exposures and getting around 3500 with the moon out, I am using an idas lp filter but for gain 100 I would of thought it would be higher than that? My dslr on a 3min exposure would be up at around 20000
  16. Ok I just did a 3 min exposure at gain 100 and offset of 50 but my mean pixel stat for entire image is 3700? I’m using an idas lp filter but even so I thought the background would be higher than that? And the moon is out? I’m wondering if nebulosity isn’t applying the gain as I’m capturing in nebulously
  17. I know this is an oldish thread now but I’m in the Uk and my rig has been outside permanently for the last 2 years under a telescope cover, its been through many storms with horrendous rain also down to -7, blazing sun and still looks like the day I set it outside, the telegizmos 365 is an excellent bit of kit. It covers my Newtonian on a neq6 sat on the moveable skywatcher peir, best thing I ever did with my rig. Only thing I take inside is the main camera after a session, my guide cam has been attached for them two years also and still good as new
  18. These are my kind of images distant galaxys are my favourite, may sound strange but emission nebula do not interest me in the slightest, this image is the stuff I like and you have done a nice job on it, I’ve just received my new asi533 mc pro And this will be the stuff I’m after
  19. Dynamic range is about 13.5 at gain 100 and well depth about 20,000, my scope is f4.5 was thinking of using 3 min exposures, does that sound About right to you? Will I saturate stars in 3 mins? I spose I could test but I don’t really want to be wasting precious time if I get a clear spell, I’ve seen people say gain 0 is the way to go and longer exposures on these newer cmos cameras then others say shorter exposures at unity gain
  20. I’m hoping for a clear spell tonight to have a quick first light, the moon is around so not ideal, I did do a bias frame at offset 50 and that gave me a median of around 1750 I’m not at all technical when it comes to this but I’m taking it that number gets added to light frame after it’s been shot?
  21. So do these newer cmos sensors still require darks if the images are dithered? Also are dark flats required or can you just get away with normal flats be enough? Being new to these cameras I’m not at all clued up on the calibration required, on my canon I just used a bad pixel map and plain old flats
  22. Ok thanks Adam I shall set it to 50 😀
  23. Answer to question 1 is time and lots of it 😀
  24. So I’ve just received my new 533mc pro and plan it’s first light at gain 100, thats the point the read noise drops, but what offset do I need to use if anybody has got this camera thanks in advance
