  1. Since u said it's for the moon and planets then get the mak. If it would for dso or general stuff then sct Only issue will be cooldown with the mak it could be an hr to hr and a half. I'm pretty sure these models dont have an air vent and a fan so it will take a long time. I had a 7"f15 meade uhtc mak and it had a fan and vent and it still took 1 to 2 hrs for good views but perfect views after 3 Joejaguar
  2. I think any dealer can order u this I did few different times. Just give them the size u need. They can see who sells best fit from celestron skywatcher or meade. Sometimes it may be 1mm off so just add bit more felt on rings Joejaguar
  3. It just came in I cant believe how heavy the 90 is it's like 18 or 19 lbs. To compare my 6 inch f8 evostar is 21 or 22 lbs. Joejaguar
  4. Ok heres another thought not saying Allen way is right or wrong. As I said the difference from eq3-2 to cg4 is 75 cdn or about 49uk. That's same price as the adptor and he wount have to fool around hoping it will fit and work But then its the same money hes not getting the 1.75inches tripod that comes with cg4. So if he ever gets it even used that's about 100 cdn or another 60uk. It may make more sense to find a used cg4 and trade or sell the eq3-2. That way it comes with a much better tripod that's more stable and the vixen head too Joejaguar
  5. Hi Allen 49 UK is decent but how does Neil bolt to the top of his mount plate tho. DIY stuff is where I'm not a pro on If Neil has to bolt new holes and bolt and nuts, are u ok with that Neil? Could that lower the value if he ever sells the mount with extra holes in it? And will it be secure? I know this can be done with other applications but not but not 100%sure if it will fit that specific mount top plate Joejaguar
  6. for sure 100% salt water over time rusts alumunum or steep parts and over time coating too joejaguar
  7. Thers the nexstargt mount or slt mount? maybe can't get more light and with goto than that Joejaguar
  8. It could be alot more dewy where dew caps wont do and powered dew control and all that hassle comes into effect Also if u near oceans all that salt water may cause other issues Not to mention that all that water vapor in air may make seeing not so good Trading one for another isn't all good Joejaguar
  9. get a rigel it creates a bulls eye and is smallish and really good. it has double sided sticky tape if u ever take it off use goo-gone that's it no damage done norm tho spotters are 15 to 45x or a 20x60 power so norm no finders are needed. if u plan to use for astro stuff 45 to 60x is ok for some stuff others like the planets u need to push to 100 to 200x which it cant do not to mention since its probbally straight through it will be very hard to look upwards. most scopes have a 90 degree, even a 45 degree is a pain at a lot angles since its really meant for daytime stuff joejaguar
  10. Ok that's the way to do it It does take couple min to do but it's best option for u right now There could be an option to convert it to vixen rail but not sure it will be worth the cost On the used market the eq3 sells for 125 cdn u can convert that to UK if u like the cg4 maybe 200. Maybe one day u can upgrade to that but like I said I have both the eq3 is ok too I have it just takes 2 min longer to do. People with truss dobs have to assemble it then collimate it that's a pain but each to their own Joejaguar
  11. Ok ya the head of the eq3 is not a vixen bar type but u can just loosen rings and turn the tube left and right depending if the angle is not great. U can also if need move the tube bit higher or lower too. Having both the vixen one is bit easier but the older eq3 is ok still just needs getting used to It only becomes an issue if u got a couple scopes and u have to unbolt and re bolt the rings everytime u change scopes If that's the only scope u have the rings just stay on there.if u can carry whole setup in one PC then do that if not take the mount tripod and ring then the tube. You dont take the rings and tube off everytime u move the mount it do u? Ps Neil one of my up coming vids is about comparing the eq3 to cg4.i already recorded it but havnt post it yet. Should be in a few weeks time (3 ) Joejaguar
  12. I would say once u get to green zone that's where it get much better or better yet blue or grey. In blue and grey zone I can see most of it not to the edges as it becomes fainter and its pics the norm see this. Anything deep sky is about dark skies In Canada our biggest star party is held 5 days once a yr. It's in a yellow zone which is soso. About 900 to 1200 people go but after 3 yrs if that I stopped going cause I had a place in a blue zone. So was no point to view from a yellow zone There huge difference between the 2 even tho it's only 2 zone better. I kinda explain it like this each zone is 50% better Joejaguar
  13. Ap or imaging is more about the mount and camera. A small 70 to 80mm apo can be all u need and they r colour free which is what u need. Depending on budget u can get away with a cg5/eq5 but most would say get the heq5 so its rock solid. If your scope moves at all even couple mm it will be seen in photos. Joejaguar
  14. Yep the 150 is a very good size and the quality is much better in this size As I also said in your last post was no point to upgrade to a 1300mm from the 114 just go to 150. You should be happy for a long time with this scope its semi big but still portable The mirror on these are the better parabolic and the norm come with a 2 inch focuser Joejaguar
  15. Just so you know wont get cristal clear images from that kinda scope at best it will be semi clear on highter powers. I just tested that design in Nov so not long ago on Saturn which was not great this yr. I didnt log the power but my guess was 150x since I was showing 3 people I didn't want it to go out fov too fast They liked it cause was first time seeing Saturn ever but I was iffy on the view. I posted on other posts few weeks later I tried my tak and SW evostar on Saturn which was even lower and those views where much better. You might not have noticed since theres nothing to compare it to but maybe when u push the power u may then see it never snaps into 100% clear focuse. Joejaguar
  16. The 8 inch is a very good size to start with BUT if portability is not really an issue I would get the 10. The 10 is alot bigger and heavier if 90% of the time you will just bring it from the house to the backyard then no doubt the 10 is a perfect size that will probably last many yrs. Joejaguar
  17. well i thought that the SW would have been very close too. Its also f9 so that helps out. altho SW is a doublet and tripet for the tak being f9 on the SW does help colour too. And by the abbie rating or the chart MTF it puts the sw model at 98%. So again i though it would be kinda close but still the tak would be abit better BUT it just didnt happen that way the images was a HUGE difference but i guess u cant always go by what the % says on a chart etc. Somethimes seeing is beliving. Lastly the tak cost almost 4x the amount so depends on how much you want to spaend too, Joejaguar
  18. Is it possible to just drill the holes to the next size drill bit which is just 1mm more? The head of the screws are abit thick I think I done it b4 and it worked Joejaguar
  19. ok heres video i made few months ago
  20. That's a good start but yes I agree upgrade the finder to the rigel and get 3 plossl or super plossls should be good for that scope. Keep in mind Amazon has cheap ep but dont always get those. Celestron omni are really good Skywatcher plossls are good Meade 4000 super plossls or 5000 are good Bst ep are good too Orion has serious plossls too Joejaguar
  21. Just another option u can sell the sw80ed and vixen and try to buy a 4 to 4.5 inch high end refractor. Basically it will replace the vixen and being a triplet it can even be shorter making it more portable. But alot better quality tho. Just a thought. Joejaguar
  22. Its pretty good but it needs 3 things A stool or stand A shroud since it's open tube A dewcap since mirror is so close to open tube So u gotta add up the costs of these items but it is portable. I'll send my YouTube video I made to your private message and u decide Joejaguar
  23. Any of those synta single or dual axis motor drives all work. The lx70 is a regular eq5 Joejaguar
  24. Well on this part I did test my tak 102 TSA against my 100mmf9 evostar and the tak blew the evostar away. If u like I can post the link to the video I made? Joejaguar
