  1. Hi Paul, welcome to SGL
  2. If you are starting out in astrophotography then you need to keep it as simple as possible. Most start with an 80ED refractor on something like an HEQ5 (Usable) or EQ6 (better). What is most important is the mount. As focal length increases so does the difficulty of tracking. Large astrographs require a larger mount and, a lot of skill from the user.
  3. Looks like a great site you have. I shall look forward to seeing this project progress.
  4. I'm going to use four 610x610x50mm paving stones for the base of my pier. This will be sitting on a clay and gravel 'soil' which is rock solid (I have to hack it with a pick). I find one of these paving stones difficult to lift - four are going nowhere and my scope will not be toppling!
  5. Here's a pic of my former Newt, a 250 Skywatcher. A lovely scope but just a bit too big for my dodgy back.
  6. A Dob is a Newt, but not a proper scope The Dob thread excludes proper Newts
  7. One of my ex scopes. I wish I still had this...
  8. That 6" f4 is cute - I'd like one of those! Does it have a 2" focusser?
  9. Sounds like you have a great scope. I'd love one of those myself - what a beauty.
  10. There are no words to describe this. It's just the best image I've ever seen.
  11. In display properties, on the display tab set the display to line mode. On the colour tab select 'black on white' then apply.
  12. I have my CdC set up to look like a printed star chart:- Makes it easy to print finder charts if I need them.
  13. It says 0% cloud for here right now, and it is! One thing I do find, and this goes with other sites too, is the the sunset times being off by about 30 minutes. It says 16:39 for here but at 16:39 it's quite dark. Towards the end of last week the sun set just after 16:00 - going home time from the office.
  14. Hi John, welcome to SGL
  15. I can confirm looking through the following eyepieces: Radian 60° - has a wider view than a Plössl, 50° LVW 65° - has a wider view than a Radian 42mm LVW 72° - has a wider view than an LVW Nagler 82° - has a wider view than a 42mm LVW The differences are evenly spaced
  16. Whatever it is, enjoy it cause it's like looking though an open window
  17. We can all do BB impressions
