But I didnt say that I knew what im doing! First time for a comet so I could fluff it up.

  3. Stellarium 13.0 - not worth downloading, quite slow (and thats on a gaming laptop). Gone back to 12.2 and all is fine.

Not using CDC Rob, it took me a few sessions to get used to it, mainly navigating with the mouse. Click and drag, really missed that.

Tried CDC, but couldnt get on with the navigation, felt a bit clunky. Stellarium is fine now I have updated the comet list (having a go at c/2014 e2 next week).

13 refused to run on mine, said a missing file so had to revert to 12. Will live with the older one, but finding I do not use it much.

I used Al's collimation aid, and overlayed that from the preview screen in NeroVision. Turns out my secondary was too far up the tube.

      Uranium235

Despite collimation, there was some minor focuser tilt (probably from the weight of the camera), but Ive adjusted that out and the corners seem ok now - just rolling off some test subs on the Veil.

      Tinker1947

i have 1 manhole in my property, the next manhole is shared so the water board have to clear it, not blocked for maybe 10 years now

    2. Myopicus

      Myopicus

Sympathies. I own my own drain rods, out of necessity.

    3. Uranium235

      Uranium235

It was midnight before I got it cleared. Had no rods to use, just loads of caustic soda and boiling water (it was the kitchen drain).

There is a reason why I always bang on about "no food in the sink", a plea not always heard...lol.

  15. By jove! I think ive solved the problem of newtonian flats without stray light!

Will do a proper post when I have my examples to hand (would like to show before and after). Its probably the next best thing to a skyflat.

Sounds logical, my light box is too bright, made from 30mm 300 x 300 x 300 polystyrene and illuminated from white LED's , I think I might spray over the LED's with some acrylic paint to dim them down... cost so far £7 :D

Another idea was to use a white sphere over the end of the OTA, there is a white plastic globe in a local lamp shop that looks a good candidat, if I can cut it in half.... :P

Have you ever had the same problem with Lum flats? Its like there is a circular reflection or something similar in the middle of the frame - which when subtracted from the lum data, is quite noticeable.

The explorer range of newts does not have any baffles, and therefore is probably more prone to this problem - glad its sorted now becuase it means I can chase really dark stuff now.

It was 11pm before it started clearing, and still too much light. Might go into summer shutdown for a few weeks.

    4. hobsey

      hobsey

Good idea as the light evenings and cloud want annoy you then. I went into summer shutdown a few weeks ago and wont be getting the scopes out again until I visit a friend on the edge of the Brecon Beacons at the end of August.

  21. Could it be true? Friday forecast as clear all day and night! I'll eat my socks if that turns out to be accurate.
