  1. Just the standard one that came with the scope. Fair enough 😃
  2. I think I beat this with a bin bag and rubber band 😃
  3. Hi all, First image of the season for me. Happy that my kit survived the summer holidays! M52 and the bubble nebula 20 * 300s at ISO1600 on a modified 1100d Have to say that this is the trickiest target to process that I have ever encountered! All comments welcome Cheers
  4. I think the Chinese asi120 clone is the Datyson t7 and can be bought on aliexpress for £80 ish (colour or mono). Not used one myself but seem to recall other forum users have Cheers Vern
  5. +1 for this book Quick play with PS. Think I may have over stretched a tad
  6. All neater solutions than my folded bin bag and rubber band ? V
  7. Morning all, Pleased with this M51 from Star Wars day on May the 4th. 130PDS + HEQ5 + 1100d modified + 80mm ASI120MM Guiding 40 * 240s subs + Bias and Flats Comments welcome ? Here's a wider uncropped version. I think I prefer this one
  8. There's a nice piece of software called VirtualDub available. If you can convert your tifs to BMP and name them 1.bmp, 2.bmp then you can load them as a sequence into Virtual Dub and save them as a movie. I did this a while back with my individual subs so that I could get an idea as to how they changed with darkness. VirtuaDub may be able to load tifs so it may just be a renaming exercise....memoey has failed me! v Thinking again, I did the rename by selecting all my files and then right click rename. I renamed them as x.bmp which results in x_1.bmp x_2.bmp etc which is Good enough for VirtualDub as it just needs an increasing index
  9. Thanks John, Amazed to have captured UGC 5302. Coma corrector is a badder mpcc. Will have another crack at processing to improve background. Thanks again Vern
  10. Hi all, Thought I'd share my latest 130PDS image of M81/M82. All captured 24/3 on a modified 1100d. 30 x 300 seconds lights plus 20 flat and 20 bias. Stacked in DSS and tweaked in PS All comments/advice welcome Many thanks Vern Anyone know what the fuzzy on the left hand edge is? Is it an artifact or a galaxy? It appears to have a spiral structure
  11. Hi Galen, Yes guided with PHD2 and a ASI120MC :-)
  12. Last nights Leo triplet 24 x 240s subs 130PDS + EQ5 + Unmodified 350d PHD2 guided with ASI120MC Pleased with this one :-)
  13. There's a lot of nice detail in here. Definitely worth doing some flats too. It should remove that glow to below and left of the Nebula. Good pic :-)
  14. Hi all, Captured this M37 with my 130PDS + EQ5 +350d last night. It was one of those bothersome nights when I was attacked by Gremlins. Managed 10 x 2 minutes subs before the 130 finally crashed into the mount and I was too cold to carry on! Still, pleased with this for such a short integration time. Thanks Vern
  15. OK...I'm sold...Thank you Will do. Many thanks. So now I know what I'm doing this weekend! Will post hopefully successful results
  16. Thanks John. I have tried an image of the Horsehead on my unmodified 350d and like your Rosette it was lacking depth of red. I think I'll take a deep breath and get the tools out :-)
  17. Hi John, Do you have a before and after picture? I am about to pull the filter from my 350d and replace it with a Baader but keep loosing my nerve! Is the difference really noticeable? Thanks Vern Nice Horsehead BTW :-)
  18. Thanks Adrian, that's exactly the king of info I was after. Much appreciated
  19. Hi All, I have been experimenting with the Arcsinh Stretch in Photoshop as described by Mark. I am a very amateur processor but am really impressed by this new method. It really does seem to maintain star colours so much better. I have been struggling to get my images to a consistent state whereby I can apply the stretch. I understand that white balance etc are critical but could someone kindly share some suggestions as to how best to prepare images for this stretch. Some of the images I have tried come out OK, others gain a pink hue or excessive noise. I have a reasonable grasp of the more convention flow but am trying to understand the suggested order for arcsinh, noise reduction, gradient removal, initial stretch etc. What flow do you use? :-) Many thanks Vern
  20. Maybe not a challenge as such but I would really like some processing practice. Maybe publish some stacked but unprocessed images for us to practice processing on. Perhaps we could post our results for comments and comparison to help each other out? Data seems very hard to collect in the UK at the moment! Thanks
  21. Hi Neil, I ordered a copy direct from Steve and received it last Thursday. It's well worth any wait :-)
  22. Hi All, Happy with my M45 Pleiades from last week. 130PDS, EQ5, 350d unmodified 20 * 180s guided DSS + PS (referencing Steves wonderful new book....Dark arts or magic bullet) All comments and advice gratefully received Vern
  23. Hi furrysocks2, I'd really like to know more about your experiences with this camera. I'd love to use for guiding to replace my SPC900NC in the 9x50 guide scope. If you could let me know how it goes that would be fantastic. Ta Vern
  24. Hi all, My first DSO from the 18th Feb 2017...Yes last week!!! Orion Nebula on a 200P/EQ5 using an unmodified SPC900NC webcam. 400 shorts stacked in Registax and colours fiddled with using GIMP. There was some curious horizontal banding (noise) in the original avi so perhaps I over cooked the gain? Never the less, I am stunned by what can be seen from my back garden :-) Vern
