Cable identification please
Cornelius Varley replied to LaurenceT's topic in Getting Started Equipment Help and Advice
Not with the AZ Goto mounts. These terminate at the mount end with rj12. -
Cable identification please
Cornelius Varley replied to LaurenceT's topic in Getting Started Equipment Help and Advice
Assuming that the cable is curly it could be for a SW AZ Goto / SW GTi mount, the handset end is rj45 and the mount side rj12. -
The requirements have changed. To gain access to the sale/wanted section you now only need 30 days membership and more than 25 posts in relevant sections (non astronomy and welcome sections don't count)

The autoguider port on the handset connects to the autoguider port on the guide camera using the appropriate cable (ST4). The camera is connected to the laptop (usb cable) , the usb cable then returns guide commands back from the guiding software (PHD2) to the mount via the ST4 cable. Combined imaging/guiding cameras tend not to be readily available.

Eyepiece and Barlow configuration
Cornelius Varley replied to GasGiant's topic in Getting Started Equipment Help and Advice
With that configuration the magnification will be about 1.4x. 2x magnification will only be achieved using the barlow lens as supplied. -

Longitude and latitude.
Cornelius Varley replied to amateur-astro's topic in Getting Started General Help and Advice
Synscan only requires degrees and minutes, so the remainders are rounded up/down as appropriate. -
Longitude and latitude.
Cornelius Varley replied to amateur-astro's topic in Getting Started General Help and Advice
The numbers should be entered in this format and order 002 01W 52 36N. Also download the synscan app which will give you the coordinates in the correct format. https://skywatcher.com/download/software/synscan-app/ Or Synscaninit2 -
The eyepiece won't move with this type of telescope. The focussing is by the movement of the internal primary mirror. @Mandy1966 point the telescope at a tree/building about 1km away and then rotate the focussing knob to obtain a focused image in the eyepiece. This type of telescope requires many turns of the focussing knob to reach focus from close to infinity.

Dslr mount
Cornelius Varley replied to Goldmask's topic in Getting Started Equipment Help and Advice
The camera body should attach to the visual back (rear) of the telescope using the appropriate adapters. No need for an eyepiece, the telescope becomes a very long telephoto lens. -
Southern Cross Amateur Astro - Apt video user guide
Cornelius Varley replied to bottletopburly's topic in The Astro Lounge
Already covered in this thread. -
You shouldn't need to reinstall anything. This laptop (Lenovo x220 which I purchased about 8 or 9 years ago) is now running Win11 23H2 originally had Win7 Pro and has had updates to Win10, Win11 22H2 and now 11 23H2 and I have never needed to reinstall software, you select "keep apps and documents" when updating the os.
-
If you now running Win 11 22H2 on an unsupported machine (I guess many are) and are waiting to see if 23H2 will become available to you, check to see if KB5031455 has been recently installed. If so, you can automatically get 23H2 by simply installing KB50327397. KB5032797 enables the 23H2 updates contained in KB5031455 and only takes a couple of minutes (see video below, starts at @ 11minutes in, link for the required file contained in the description).

refractor Refractor size question…..
Cornelius Varley replied to Neutrinosoup's topic in Discussions - Scopes / Whole setups
The For Sale/Swap section with become available to you once you have reached the following requirements: at least 30 days membership and more than 25 posts (posts in the welcome section and non-astro lounge don't count towards this). -
The telescopes are the same, Synta own both Skywatcher and Celestron, many of Celestron's reflectors and refractors were supplied by Synta long before Synta bought Celestron. The difference in price appears to be that the Celestron version is mounted on an Eq2 mount and is being sold at a heavily discounted price. Whether the EQ2 mount it capable of holding the mak is another matter.
