Amazon to put 3000 satellites into orbit
Cornelius Varley replied to wimvb's topic in The Astro Lounge
There's probably a joke in there about Amazon satellites being delivered in 1 to 2 business days or that you were out and they were left with your neighbour. But I'm not going to do that. -

It might be helpful to upload a photo of the finder so as to aid in identifying the type of battery required. -
Help with choosing my first scope
Cornelius Varley replied to v1ks's topic in Getting Started Equipment Help and Advice
Herschel wedges should be used with certain types of refractor telescope. SCTs and MCTs are a closed system which can cause a big build up of heat within the telescope tube if a front mounted solar filter is not used, potentially damaging/ruining/destroying the telescope. -
From FLO: "Important Notes: Do not use with full aperture SCTs or damage to your secondary mirror may result. SCTs must be fitted with an off axis ERF, available separately. SCT and Maksutov users need to purchase an Energy Rejection Filter specific to their telescope for safe operation. SCT owners must employ a front mount, off-axis, aperture reduced Energy Rejection Filter (ERF) in order to achieve optimum performance. This front mount ERF will generate a slower focal ratio through aperture reduction while preventing heat build-up in the optical tube assembly. Maktsutov telescopes operating at a native ~F/15 focal ratio do not need to reduce the aperture of the telescope but must use front mount energy rejection to prevent overheating of the optical tube assembly." From this I would deduce that a front mounted ERF is required to stop heat build up within the closed telescope tube.

The motors can't be interchanged between the EQ5 and EQ3-2 mounts. The EQ3-2 RA is attached using a small bracket which is bolted to the side of the mount, the EQ5 RA fits to the underside of the mount and drives through gears, unlike the EQ3-2 which drives the RA directly through a flexible coupling. It would be obvious to the OP that the dual axis drives where not correct for their mount.
-
The mount is an EQ5, the OP has stated that. The motors you linked to are for the Celestron CG4/Skywatcher EQ3-2. The motors in the photo are for the EQ5. The two systems are incompatible, you can't physically attach the EQ5 motors to an EQ3-2/CG4 and visa-versa. See above. The EQ5 and CG4/EQ3-2 dual axis drives are different.

Microsoft will be withdrawing support for win 10 towards the end of next year. I guess that MS will expect any computer that doesn't support win 11 (by their standards) will be thrown away and replaced with a new one. My X220 (this one I am typing on) has a build date of Sept 2011 and is supposedly incompatible. I don't see any drop off in performance (in it's day it was a high-end business laptop, the type the CEO would play solitaire on) and still going strong.
-
Apparently this was an accident and the option has been removed. Typing this on an old Lenovo X220 which shouldn't support win 11 (running win 11). Also installed on a Dell laptop that only just doesn't support 11. To install windows 11: Download the windows 11 ISO and a copy of a programme called rufus, you will also need a memory stick of at least 8gb compacity. Run rufus and direct the programme to where the ISO file resides. Rufus will give options on how to install ie ignore CPU and TPM requirements that a regular install would check first and stop win 11 from installing and also what to keep (existing files and programmes) Start the installation and go away for five hours. If everything goes OK you should end up with a computer running win 11. If you don't like it you have about ten days to return to the old OS. Rufus - Create bootable USB drives the easy way

Celestron powerseeker 127 Mount
Cornelius Varley replied to keithery's topic in Getting Started Equipment Help and Advice
Hello and welcome to SGL. Do you intend to replace the broken mount with the same (Celestron CG2 / Skywatcher EQ1) or something better ? The CG2/EQ1 isn't normally available as a separate item new so you might have to purchase a used one from ebay. A slight step up from the CG2/EQ1 is the Skywatcher EQ2 Skywatcher EQ2 Mount & Tripod - Rother Valley Optics Ltd -
Mark 127 guide cam
Cornelius Varley replied to Astro74's topic in Getting Started Equipment Help and Advice
For planetary and lunar imaging a guidescope and guide camera are not required. The individual images within an avi file are short exposures and will not show drift, unlike DSO imaging which requires long exposures and guiding to avoid drifting. -
Meade LX90 questions.
Cornelius Varley replied to EsseEstPercipi's topic in Discussions - Scopes / Whole setups
Hello and welcome to SGL. Meade tend to use a 2.5x5.5mm plug for power input rather than the 2.1x5.5mm that Celestron/Skywatcher use so this one Lynx Astro Silicone Power Cable 2.5mm DC Jack | First Light Optics should be suitable (check with FLO and the instruction manual first) -

The Synscan Wifi adapter plugs straight into the Synscan handset's RJ12 socket. With this and the Synscan app Sky-Watcher | Sky-Watcher Global Website (skywatcher.com) you can control your mount. -

Carports and detached garages are not normally covered by building regs or require planning permission but certain rules need to be met, non of which include construction methods. -
Focusing issues with Barlow lens
Cornelius Varley replied to UniDonk's topic in Getting Started Equipment Help and Advice
The problem could be the collimation. When you recollimated the telescope you might have moved the primary mirror further from the secondary. If this occurs the point of focus will also move closer to the secondary meaning that you have to adjust the focuser closer to the secondary to achieve focus and run out of inward focuser travel with the barlow. Recollimating and paying attention to moving the primary closer to the secondary will probably solve the problem. -

I suspect that you might be disappointed with the outcome. The "Barlow" lens has two functions. The first is to give the telescope it's focal length of 1400mm and the second is to correct the spherical aberrations caused be the spherical primary lens. You now have a 600mm focal length telescope with a spherical primary.
