Western Veil (Witches Broom) - Short Session

Hi Even though i don't understand mono-with-colour stuff, a lovely image. is this taken from Spain? If not, it maybe worth revisiting; we have over 5 hours of darkness ATM. You could make it truly pop:) Cheers -

I'm not certain, which is why I thought that making a new profile with the equipment connected was the better advice. Cheers -
PHD2 Guiding - Something not quite right

PHD2 also needs that setting. If you change it, you must also change it in PHD2. But far easier just to make a new profile with the mount and camera connected. Then you can be sure to have the corect values for everying as PHD2 will then read the values from the drivers. HTH The setting is here but best to make a new profile. -

Hi Where is the filter in the optical train? -
Hi everyone With the comet being too low too early there was nothing but to go conventional. Still couldn't get low enough for m7, but just about enough stability for m8 above the heat shimmer. Thanks for looking and do give us your opinion. particularly on the -well dodgy- colour. eos700d on nt150s 90 minutes

EKOS' FitsViewer will give you the grid and object overlay. Just enable the WCS so that the data is written to the fits header. HTH

Hi and thanks. I found a few more stars and fixed the ones around the edge. I'm having trouble with the colour though -nothing new there of course- especially the red/orange. If I get a moment I may have a go, but I'm hopeless at colour! Again, lovely shot. There's loadsa resolution. Gotta love big reflectors:) Cheers
-
Hi Lovely shot. i've a feeling there maybe some more stars around the cluster. Would you mind if I had a play with the jpg? Cheers
-
Hi Lovely shot. Those stars. Amazing... Sorry, no time for GIMP ATM but here's a quick 5 minute thrash with StarTools in keep-all-the-stars mode! HTH **edit: fixed the stars in corners.

Should I get ZWO 120mm mini or 120mm
alacant replied to Abhinav's topic in Getting Started With Imaging
Hi Here's the compatible usb2/3 firmware. You'll need a Linux box: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=1eXBCN06Uz6pGdf-TDd_8ETVW5QRw9zSO HTH- 13 replies

Hi everyone This is an easy one for a moonlit night. Interesting the diagonal divide. It looked a bit orange so I stuck it through Siril's photometric calibration but it checked correctly. There must be something, especially top left, obscuring the light. Dunno... Thanks for looking and here's hoping you've clear skies. 700d 40min @ ISO800

alacant replied to Abhinav's topic in Getting Started With Imaging
Hi Not sure your intended use but we use both. The mini in the oag and the fat one on a guide telescope. Both are USB2, the latter having the advantage of the robust USB connection. The mini has the flaky 'phone charger usb-c. FWIW, the only reason to use the -more expensive- mini is that you can use a helical focuser, otherwiase we'd use the older version as it's cheaper. Cheaper still, the t7m, a 120 mini clone; identical performance under the same software, alas with the awful d shaped usb 'phone connector All three work out of the box under Linux. How I capture planets under 100 dollars ?
alacant replied to Abhinav's topic in Getting Started With Imaging
Hi IIRC, iOS out of the box doesn't provide manual camera control. A swears-by-everything-apple mate tells me the best app to enable you to take control of the iphone camera is halide. I've not used it personally but have seen it being used. My guess is that given the correctly dialled in exposure with an iphone X held solidly and squarely to your focuser, you'd be hard pushed to tell the difference between Jupiter shots from it and a 120mc. Oh, and the app costs a lot less than a 120mc;) Even better, get a video app and stack. Worth a go? Cheers, good luck and HTH. -
Before purchase, communication by their e-mail system iwas very good with queries being dealt with personally the same day. sometimes within a few minutes. Placed an order. The goods arrived on time. The goods were defective. I reported the defects to their e-mail system. This time standard replies that they have a large volume of messaging to deal with. 2 weeks later a reply saying that they send a return shipping label. I return the goods. 2 weeks later, I get a refund. After payment, no offer of help or any response to my questions. No offer to fix or offer a replacement. Total lack of communication once the car had been shifted from the forecourt. HTH

Testing Flattener Reducer - Daytime ?
alacant replied to Eddie Jones's topic in Getting Started With Imaging
Hi Set the distance using T2 threded spacers according to the focal length of your telescope. I'd be surprised if you needed much more than just a T2 adaptor, giving you the popular 55mm spacing. Screw the FF directly to it. Point at Cygnus and see what the stars are like around the edges. If there are issues, post the frame here. Cheers and HTH. Copied from your link: Back Focus - distances from the T2-thread to the camera sensor depends on the focal length of the telescope:♦ Focal Length to 350 mm .... 70 mm♦ Focal Length to 420 mm .... 65 mm♦ Focal Length 450-500 mm ... 61 mm♦ Focal Length 510-600 mm ... 58 mm♦ Focal Length 610-700 mm ... 57 mm♦ Focal Length 710-790 mm ... 56 mm♦ Focal Length from 800 mm .. 55 mm -
Hi everyone Full moon last night and therefore narrow band imaging only. So we used a DSLR without filters. Rules eh?! A special mention to Siril's -rather nice and simple modern- background module which made this all possible, especially when the light shield falls off half way through. Got rid of most, alas not all, of the crud. Thanks for looking. Did anyone else get anything last night? 700d @ ISO800 45 off 1 minute frames

No need for a telescope. Your camera outfit is more than capable. If you want to invest in anything, maybe you could consider a tracking mount? Cheers
-
Hi If you persevere with this telescope, it would be a good idea to lose the Barlow, fit a 2" focuser, and a larger secondary. Then move the main mirror closer to the secondary. that way you will achieve focus at f5. But once you've done that you will have spent a touch less than... ... the 130pds which is a drop in replacement, colour free, works out of the box with your 600d and is half the outlay of the 72ed. Cheers and HTH.
