Waning Crescent Moon & Venus
orion25 replied to orion25's topic in Imaging - Widefield, Special Events and Comets
Thanks, Mark. It was a great way to start the day! 🤩 -
Thanks, Kostas. You're right; the GRS really adds something to the view. Moon and shadow transits are exciting, too!
-
I only planned to have a long evening of observing when I noticed the GRS was nearly dead-center. Of course, I had to gather some quick data after which I resumed an extended observing session (from about 8 p.m. to 3 a.m. - no work the next morning)! Orion 180mm Mak-Cass, ASI-224MC, Firecapture, Registax 6, Photoshop Cheers! Reggie

I woke up Thursday morning to a striking conjunction of the waning crescent moon and Venus. I couldn't resist getting a shot. Taken with my Nikon D3200 at 300x zoom: Cheers! Reggie

Thanks, Geof. It actually was Io; left-right orientation was flipped.

Me, too, buddy, me, too!

Love, love, LOVE the colors you brought out in the first image. The textures in all of the images are exquisite. Reggie

Beautiful presentation, Fedele 👍 You captured Jupiter exceedingly well! Reggie

Brilliant! I noticed that new feature on my images as well. Jupiter is nothing if not dynamic. Reggie -

Nice GRS and Io there! Reggie -
Bravo, Kostas! The important thing is that you're out there. Being an astronomer is being an opportunist! Regards, Reggie

Absolutely superb images, Geof! Some of the best I've seen in a while. Would love to see some GRS images (no rush, lol)! Regards, Reggie

Here is an image of Jupiter a few days past opposition with the GRS and Io transit visible! I used the usual gear - Orion 180mm Mak, ASI 224MC, captured with Firecapture and processed in Registax 6: Cheers! Reggie 🤩

Thanks, knobby. I like both; the bold colors and strong textures of the first set appeal to me, but the subtle hues and delicate lines of the second set are beautiful!

Thanks. I do like to turn up the wavelets sometimes, though, lol!

Thanks, my friend. I'm learning all the time

Haha, I like "you're not making pizza"! That's going to stick with me

Thanks, Pete. Yes, the 180 really does its job. I'm glad I went for it and bought one so many years ago.

Thanks, Goef. I go back and forth with the processing. Sometimes, I go for bold, rich colors and strong textures. Other times, I choose softer hues and subtle lines. I end up processing images multiple times for different effects. It all depends on my mood. I appreciate the feedback

Awesome images, Avani!

Thanks, Kim. Maks are excellent on the planets and they are great imaging scopes.

I was able to capture some nice images of Jupiter as it approaches opposition with the GRS visible, an Io transit (along with a distinct shadow), and Callisto nearby. Jupiter was at high elevation, almost directly overhead, with excellent seeing. Orion 180mm Mak-Cass, ASI 224mc, Firecapture, Registax 6, Photoshop Io was completing its transit as the GRS was rotating into view. Callisto is off to the right in this image: The GRS is near the center of Jupiter with Io to the upper right and Callisto to the lower right: Opposition is next weekend, the night of November 2-3!
