  1. Amazing work - into m21 quasars at the edge of the universe - deeper than I managed - must try harder! Wonder if the sensors near-IR sensitivity helps -assuming quasars at this range emit in these wavelengths? Nytecam
  2. Hi Hiten - I've only seen the M82 filaments in images when Ha filter added to stack. Perhaps other options may work. Nytecam

  4. Hiten - your jet enlarged and sharpened to show possible structure - hence my 3 shots to show commonality ! The jet changes over time. Nytecam

Here's the DSO montage [including the offending gibbous moon] that I posted on the CN LP forum when quizzed by someone totally frustrated by LP and "suppose you use your camera under a bright moon too !!!!". Well yes I do - don't let any LP natural or artificial blight me. Got rubbished - apparently I should devote all my time combatting LP but I choose to get-a-life. Nyte

  7. Nice work Hiten via the 2x2 binned Ultrastar - very impressive. May try the camera again by repiggybacked the DIY Lensless Schmidt of 450mm fl as the field not coma-free on the SCT at fast f/ratios. Hope it's ok to include my M87 jet from awhile ago via the SCT+Lodestar-C ;-) Nyte

  10. Hi Hiten - nice shots - glad you're trying old SX s/w ! As you'll find it's very powerful if crudely implemented. Multiple anti-aliases 'clicks' removes the colour 'halos' at high saturation. Do try the various imaging mode. Here, under London LP, the Gradiant Filter is essential [except near the zenith!] even with the Lodestar's tiny fov @ f/3.3. There's even a Chroma Filter for shifting R/B caused by atmospheric refraction. Nyte
  11. If you haven't already done suggest you check the Sony site for these sensors and see what they say. From my long experience with both cameras the doubling of sensitivity is reasonable but think it may include better sensitivity to near-IR which is fine for me with my reflector [SCT] but may be inhibited when used with IR block filters on refractors. Just a thought. Nyte

  14. Here's the Merope, Skull and Crab nebulae under brilliant moonlight ! Colour dumped as too noisy. Even the M1 faint pulsar is just visible under the central bright bar. Bet all the deepsky 'visual' guys said 'observing impossible' and stay indoors ! Nyte

  16. Brown's paper interesting but not unique and makes a statement of intent for which he's well qualified. Good to see how it pans out. Recorded Eris @ m18.75 last year but Panet 9 is going to be much fainter but well within range of pro survey scopes. Nytecam
  17. Last night the sub-freezing temps [-7C] continued but crystal clear under a bright gibbous moon due east after dusk .. Just an hour before our evening meal so give it a shot with just the laptop under my arm and obsy soon opened up and ready to go. Used the moon as my scope goto sync and shot half a dozen pic for later mosaic to do. Onto nearby Aldebaran for precise centering/ sync and then Merope field in Pleiades first deepsky target with images saved for later comparison to earlier shots of many red dwarf flare VS therein. Uranus next in Pisces and two... no three satellites 'seen' about the planet including Ariel - well placed for first time this season. Checked Megastar for nearby gxs but all pretty faint and expanding the fov and spied a PN low down in Cetus below Uranus eg NGC 246 = Skull Nebula. It's large [4' diam] and faint [m15] and took a few 20s exp but nebula not seen on laptop screen. Then did a 6x10s auto stack via s/w and the disc popped into view but near saturation due to moonlight ! Time nearly up so a final goto M1 only 5 deg from the moon - daft I know but amazingly the Crab was there amongst the moon glare. Nytecam

The HH is purportedly an order of magnitude more difficult to observe than the Flame [HH was discovered via AP!] and I'd rate M42 an order of magnitude brighter than the Flame - all 3 'steps' in one small area of sky ;-) I've never seen the HH and don't expect to here in London but my cam can in a few seconds with live-view so I'm happy !   19. OP Craig did ask what M42 looked like and his phone snap is a fair topic for this forum - it's certainly not AP and no need to dump someone asking for help under onerous central London LP. It's relatively dark, by comparison, from here in London zone 4 [even with ~10M neighbours!!] but I won't spoil it with what I snapped in 1s exp or maybe ;-) Nytecam
  20. Image intensifiers in real-time [and very sensitive cameras in brief exposures ] can be used with H-alpha filters to view emission objects even under light pollution and moonlight. Nytecam

  23. Surprised to learn from Megastar that M45 [principally hot blue stars] has many faint red dwarfs - some of which are UV flare stars that can rise by many mags over a few minutes or hours. Anyone follow them? I've a few backlog shots to check around Merope's nebula here ;-) Nytecam
  24. Merope reflection nebula in Pleiades M45 in 30sec - has lots of red dwarf flare stars in mag 13.5 -19.0 range - see my VS Forum post ;-) Nytecam
