They have invested in a Spectum ZX81 - so things should improve somewhat!

I hope not. We need a decent harsh(ish) winter to kill off some of the horrible bugs that are getting a foot hold.

Also a cold winter quite often means clear skies :)

  5. Clear skies, seeing a crisp 5/5, scope collimated to a tee, frac itching for a cluster or double and...a near full moon. I love the Moon but not tonight :-)

  6. Massive school boy error. Come all the way down to Exmoor for the dark skies, setup up the CG5-GT, went to plug in the power and find out I left the power lead at home.

Fair enough mate, I just know how annoying it is.

Have a lovely time down there, great part of the world.

It's also a possibility for tonight (and might even be clear).

Last night Aurora was seen well into Norfolk (according to bbc this morning).

  14. Thinking of getting Skywatcher Skymax 180, Got the Skywatcher 127mm Skymax Maksutov but thinking about how much more better the 180mm would be for the moon and planets than what I already have. :)

Looks like the skymax 150 is 5.6kg, just for your info :)

The skymax 180 is 7.8kg, your mount is rated to 7kg. Not sure what the margin for error is but I don't think I would risk if. You *may* get away with it for visual although I suspect that vibrations will be a bit of a nightmare when focusing or it's windy. I think imaging would be very difficult.

I agree a heavy scope. I had a Skymax 180 for a little while and it sat quite happily on an HEQ5 for both visual and Imaging.

But the HEQ5 really is the minimum.

Have a look in the supplier review section for what people think of suppliers. All reviews for each supplier are grouped together.
