Funny how with a hobby some seek complication to occupy themselves and others seek to escape complication. It’s just a hobby so both ways are equally valid. Whatever makes you happy. 👍🏻

Like you I enjoy looking at the amazing images here on SGL. I just would rather observe with the occasional lunar / planetary image but nothing serious or time consuming. Oops......Saying that just took this lunar shot. 🤦🏻♂️

Took a few simple single frame smartphone images with the Bresser 10” dob. Considering the scope had only been outside cooling for 15 minutes thought the results weren’t too bad.

Started out as a thread on the Ercole Giro but then FLO posted a pic of the new Rowan AZ100 Alt-Az mount that will be coming soon and it really looks the business. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

I do think that forums have made it easy for those interested in imaging to share images and imaging techniques so more images are now out there. There are probably more that are giving imaging a go with the increased availability of low cost cameras but I’ve also seen many that give imaging a go then give up as it’s just too much bother. Theres’s no danger of those just observing becoming a vanishing breed judging by the sheer amount of observers here on SGL. It’s still alive and healthy. 👍🏻 Judging by the great deal of interest shown this afternoon when FLO anounced the new Alt-Az mount the observers are still keen. 🙂

New Star Diagonal Question
johninderby replied to Greg6498's topic in Getting Started Equipment Help and Advice
I’m sure someone will come up with a use for it. 🤔 Perhaps might be usefull for taking flats at the same temp or is that so important? -
New Star Diagonal Question

They say it’s so you can record the temperature while observing. Is it any real use? Not sure. -
Sealskinz socks are great for keeping your feet warm and their gloves are warm but thin so good for handling astro gear with them on.

Sealskinz socks are absolutely brilliant at keeping your feet warm. Their gloves are handy as well..

I actually have a pair of cycling jeans. They look just like any good pair of jeans but are proper cycling trousers. You can walk around the shop and no one knows you are wearing cycling trousers. 😂😂😂
-
Check out your local, cycle shop. Cycling trousers are really good for keeping warm outdorrs in the cold weather and are more flexible than skiing trousers so easier to sit down in.

Something tells me that the Sales section will see increased activity shortly. 😁😁😁

Splitting hairs - Mewlon 210 vs OO 200mm f8
johninderby replied to Stu's topic in Discussions - Scopes / Whole setups
I was allways impressed with the OO 200 f8 when I had one. A great performer indeed. Saw off my C11 most nights. Why oh why did I ever sell it. 🤦🏻♂️ -
Bought scope but can't get anything to work
johninderby replied to Andy55's topic in Getting Started General Help and Advice
Hopefully will be just the right length but impossible to be 100% sure until you try the eyepiece with it. 🤞🏻 Be sure not to mark or damage the extender in any way while testing it in case you need to exchange it. -

Yes online order is the only way you will be able to get one. This is the one I think you will need. https://agenaastro.com/blue-fireball-2-eyepiece-extension-tube-80mm-3-15-extension.html -
Bought scope but can't get anything to work
johninderby replied to Andy55's topic in Getting Started General Help and Advice
You just need an eyepiece extenstion tube like one of these. Does your focuser accept 2” eyepieces or just 1.25”. https://agenaastro.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=eyepiece extension tube -
Bought scope but can't get anything to work
johninderby replied to Andy55's topic in Getting Started General Help and Advice
I used it on a Skytee II alt az mount. Was too heavy really and needed a stronger mount. That”s why I sold it on as I didn’t want to spend the money on a stronger mount at the time. Perhaps an EQ6 would be OK for visual use. -

Found an old pic of my OTA with an eyepiece fiteed. Note the length of the extension I had to use on the focuser. -

The ring is the Geoptik EQ6 to EQ5 adapter needed to fit the mount to an EQ6 tripod. The Berlebach spreader is a very usefull mod.
-
The same basicly except they seem to have specced extra quality control. Mine doesn’t suffer from backlash problems. Also both ends are drilled for saddles not just the one end as on the Skytee. And they haven’t wasted monsy on rubbish saddles that need replacing anyway. Stellarvue used to sell a version with saddles on both ends. 🤔 And no that isn’t the stock tripod but a modded EQ6.

So will I have to sell just a scope and some bits to afford it or a kidney? 😁

Diagonals or prisms?
johninderby replied to davekelley's topic in Getting Started Equipment Help and Advice
I’ve come to the conclusion after reading so many conflicting opinions re: mirror vs prisim that owing to differences in individuals eyesight that one may suit some more than the other. 🤔 -
