Just returned from an enjoyable trip to La Palma, my wife managed to catch this Sun Pillar with her compact camera. Taken on 3rd April 2011 from Puntagorda, La Palma, Canary Islands. The pillar is the result of light being reflected by ice crystals in the atmosphere, it was visible for more than 10 minutes. This was a first for both of us.

Sam, thanks for the comments, appreciated. The skies were superb, clearer on the west side than the east which is normally the case I believe. I can thoroughly recommend the island for a 'quite' holiday, if that is waht you are looking for.
