First moon with Canon

Its not a great pic by any means, but I just had to give it a whirl. Last night was a first for registax to, I hadn't got a clue what I was doing, but I took 6 images in total, so I decided to stack them, the finished result seemed as though my stabbing in the dark had paid off!

To take the pic, I used the sigma lens, on a very dodgy tripod, served its purpose. Not being fully clued up on manual settings, I gingerly attached the skyglow filter onto the camera lense to filter out the moon glow. It worked!

Anyway, heres the pic... :D Any help on cam settings are needed and appreciated as always!

Thanks chaps.. :D

are you going to get a t-thread adaptor to stick on your scope?

At the moment Richard, the bank balance is suffering, and is in shock therapy as we speak, but it will be something else on the shopping list for the future... :)

Great first go, looks like you got the exposure correct so you don't need pointers. :)

Maybe the fact that I used a filter, may explain why the exposure looks ok?

Are you on the newer Registax yet?

The Registax version was a freebie from S@N mag, ver. 3.

BTW you can get a T ring for that camera for about £5.00 from Jessops. (thats where i got mine)

This may be the ultimate stupid question, but what do they look like... :D

Thanks Jamie, Jessops it is...

No Caz not quite.

Have a look at this.

The T RING is the bit between the camera and the tele extender.

Right ok, with you now, but the spending doesn't stop at the t ring, the tele extender is a necessity to? Sorry for all these Q's... :D

Not a problem Caz.

You don't need the tele extender (that was just in th pic))

You do need a T RING & an adapter either 1.25 or 2" .

The 2" is the prefered one.

When you have the dosh Arthur & Steve do the said adapters they are called (T MOUNT TO 1.25 OR 2" ADAPTER)

Look at the last pic from right to left you see the camera body/T ring/tele extender/adapter.

The only bit you don't need is the tele extender.

Ok Jamie, I've taken it on board, theres really no rush atm, just like to know about all the necessary bits and bobs for future purchasing. I've still got the toucam to play with, weather permitting.

I appreciate the advice.. 8)

Plus you don't "need" the adapter, just the T ring for the Newt. If you look at the 1.25" adapter for your Skywatcher you will find that the tube shaped bit with the EP locking screws through the side will unscrew from the bit that goes in the focuser. With the tue bit off the T ring just screws onto the bit that's left. You put those two together, fit the assembly to the camera then plonk the whole thing in the focuser.

If you want to use filters you need additional kit but with a T ring you're good to go with the Canon.
