SGL 2024 Challenge 3 - Nightime Landscape

Recommended Posts

Star trails over campsite near Pooley Bridge on Ulswater in the Lake District taken on 18th-19th May.

  • Olympus O-MD E-M10 mark ii
  • 8mm F1.8 fisheye
  • ISO 800
  • 600 x 13 second exposures
  • Pre-processed in lightroom combined in StarStaX and final tweaks in photoshop

I specifically wanted to leave in the "ghosts" of people walking past in the night as I think it adds to the story of the image, although I did fade them out a little as they were extremely bright originally

Sky is bortle 2.7 but the campsite was bright and the moon was at about 80%

Night time at Julie's House.

I've been really lucky to have the opportunity to stay a couple of nights at the remarkable 'House for Essex' in Wrabness, designed by the awesome artist Grayson Perry. The building is designed to ‘evoke a tradition of wayside and pilgrimage chapels in the landscape’, and contains taprestries, ceramics and other art movingly describing the fictional life of Julie Cope, an Essex everywoman. You are warned that there are hidden security cameras aimed on the artwork, and one hopes there aren't any in the bedrooms or bathrooms! Anyway, it was a moving and wonderful couple of days.

This is a single exposure captured on 27th May, Canon 700d, Samyang 8mm Fisheye, f/5.6, 20 seconds, ISO 800, viewing South-east with Corona borealis, Bootes and Virgo in the centre and Lyra top left

Essex is flat, and my part of it is no exception. There's almost nothing for miles to the north and east here too, which made it ideal when rushing out to take photos of the aurora. There's a tidal creek in the foreground, and mist rising in the meadows in the distance.

Many apologies but I am currently away and unable to sort out the results of this challenge.  There will be a delay of a couple of weeks or so.
