Stunning filament in Ha currently - 4th March 2022

The Sun has quite a lot to offer today. It’s great in white light, with a few very nice active regions showing plenty of detail, and looking good in Ha too.

What made me go ‘Wow’ is the arcing filament (actually two, there’s a smaller one alongside) near AR 12960, well worth a look. Plenty more about too.

Thanks Stu, I saw this on my daily GONG check, though I've no chance of seeing it myself today.

I'll also be observing in WL as soon as I have some sun (possibly tomorrow or Sunday)  to observe AR2960 which is coming over the E limb.  It looks as if it could be a belter!

Amazing. Just watched a bomb of plasma fall back down to the surface, moving in real time over about 3 or 4 minutes. It’s in this prom, which appeared at the 5 O’clock position in my PST. Worth keeping an eye on if you have sunshine, which I don’t any more…

Loads going on though, especially over by 12960, but all over really in Ha.

I got a very happy 2 hours this morning mesmerized by the views in white light and Ha. It's the best session I've ever had despite the sun being so low in the sky. I've some idea of what I'm looking at in white light but can anyone point me to a good book or information on what all the white areas, white lines, black scratches, grey smudges are in Ha please?

Nice sketches Malcolm, and a nice rig you have there. Get yourself a Herschel Wedge for white light, you won’t regret it!

I have this book, imaginatively titled ‘Observing the Sun’ which is pretty good.

Your sketches have capture it very nicely; very similar to what I saw, very briefly, yesterday in white light.
