2.1mm or 2.5mm ?????

Hi all,

Are the sockets and plugs on astronomy gear 2.1 or 2.5mm?  I have never been quite sure.  Foe example, the 12v DC socket on the NEQ6 or the socket for many cameras?

Both. Think SW is 2.1mm and Meade is 2.5mm for instance.

My kit has almost always been 2.1mm but I have a Sesto Senso focuser which is 2.5mm.  So, I agree with Scotty38.

You can buy 2.1mm to 2.5mm adapters rather than buying new leads.

Thank you.  I am trying to make some 12v power leads up so it is rather confusing!  The manufacturer's manuals do not say what they are.

I agree it would be nice if all the plugs were the same but I have both sizes on my gear 🙄

See if a 2.1 fits - if it does its the right one - if it doesn't it must be 2.5.  If you try the 2.5 first it tells you nothing as it fits both but gives either zero connection or sporadic at best in a 2.1 fitting.

They are cheap enough to buy a bag of each from CPC/ Farnells etc etc.

I like to keep it simple, and only have 2.1mm maile-to-male leads. I have a couple of 2.1-2.5mm female-to-male converters that can be attached when needed. That means I'm not trying to always find the one cable for the Sesto Senso in a box of black spaghetti in the dark!
