Hope you don't hate all the questions I'll be asking. :)

Hi everyone,

Used to play around with Astronomy with my dad many decades ago. Just recently got bitten by the Astronomy-bug so ordered a new telescope and a bunch of other stuff with it. I have been reading up on as much as possible but until the equipment arrives all I can do is read and ask questions.  Most of the stuff has been shipped and is on the way, should get it next Wednesday. When it arrives I hope you all can tolerate this old man asking a bunch of nonsense. Lol.  :)

What's coming so far:  William Optics New FLT 132 Fluoro Star 132mm f/6.9 Triplet Apo Refractor   -  ZWO ASI294MM Pro Cooled Monochrome Camera  -  ZWO 7-Position Electronic Filter Wheel for 2"  -  ZWO ASI120MM-MINI 1.2 MP CMOS Monochrome   -  William Optics 1000 mm Mortar Tri-Pier  -  iOptron CEM70 Center-Balanced Equatorial Mount  -  as well as a bunch of other stuff that I'm too lazy to list.  :)

So here I have a bunch of cool stuff on the way and only a fair understanding how it all fits together to play nice. So, I'll be lurking and reading everything and when the time comes, hope I don't wear out my welcome. :)

Can't wait to photograph my first DSO.   :)

Thank you all for the welcoming!

Yeah I can spend my last dollar on equipment (if I hadn't already :) ) but without clear skies it all just sits there. :)  Was 38 degrees this morning, the snow's coming soon. Ahhhh... I might end up just looking at all the equipment for a while. :(

Since I am a newbie at this I didn't want to repeat something I did growing up. When I was a kid I bought a small motorcycle, (Hodaka Super Bee, I think.) I thought it was huge, for about a week then it seemed small so I bought a Honda 350. Same thing, so soon after I bought a KZ1000 then later a Harley. With this in mind I didn't want to buy a small scope then keep adding, then upgrading adding, then upgrading to end up with what I have now, er will have next week. Figured I'd just empty my wallet now and get it over with. :)

I listed most of the equipment so you'd know what I'm working with, so when I ask one of the billion questions to come, you'd know what the questions revolve around. :) With that in mind, Yep, I have a question.

My CEM70 mount has a GoTo / tracking that I use first to set north and all that, then I think I switch to?? to locate and fix on the target. Then I use the small 50mm guiding scope to?? I've heard the guide scope should target the brightest, closest star then switch to the main scope and start the photo session. Um, just answered my own question. Lol Okay, so that was easy, too easy, let me give you something a little more difficult. How about everyone writing (in great detail) the entire process of completing a photo session step by step, then the complete process of making Flats, Darks and everything involved afterwards. You have two minutes. Lol :) :)  Yeah, just kidding. While everything is still foreign to me I'm sure I'll figure it all out then get a good routine going after I've gone through the process a time or two. Those first couple of times are gonna be fun. Lol. :)

Guess that's about it. See how easy that was??

Like most members here you appear to have a good sense of humour which IMO is essential with this hobby. You will also need to have limitless patience as viewing time seems to be getting less and less wherever in the world you live. The ability to tinker, update and generally adapt your gear is a great way to familiarise yourself and get the most out of what you have is also very satisfying. I am sure everyone here hopes you get as much pleasure out of your new hobby as we all do.

Here's one:

These are the filters I ordered but they're still backordered, and will be for a while. Should I wait or is there a better set under $1,000? I know there were halo issues with Baader but "supposedly" the new release (what I'm backordered for) has resolved that.
