Something I found on a stroll round my town today

I had seen this dome many years ago whilst walking the kids to infant school (they are now fast approaching 30 and 28 respectively!) but had forgotten about it.

I decided to knock on the door to see if anyone was home. They were!. The obsy is still in occasional use but not as odten as it used to be. A few images of the obsy and its weaponry (please excuse some of the crappy phone cam images)-

Lovely old school looking manual mount.

Reminds me of the days of  we make it but you try to get it. I waited about three months for my original Fullerscope  8" Newtonian and mount. In the end Dudley delivered it personally bless him! .

Those white plastic setting circles bring back memories. You could locate objects with them though. A nice suburban discovery. The dome was probably home made. My original one rotated on golf balls.Happy days and nights ...............Dave

On reflection those golf balls offered a smoother and quieter rotation than the fibre glass dome I am using now

There's a certain  kind of magic that these old  scope and mounts exude.  You must have been affected by a bit of nostalga  Swoop. I got a tingle or two just seeing your images here.

Ron.
