3/8 BOLT

Im looking to replace the fixing bolt on the head an old EQ3 tripod with a similar 3/8 bolt.  Ideally im looking for a type of thumb screw that can be easily adjusted but can not locate anything online with the usual suspects, screwfix ect, Ive gone through the sticky thread of bolt / screw suppliers without success, does anyone have any suggestions or have such item they would sell?

This style would be good however anything that I could easily tighten by hand would be ideal.

I had this problem too , I took a wander up to our local hardware store they had loads. this might be your best bet .

I can't get them in the DIY stores here in the Netherlands ( its all metric) and I think this might be the same in places like B&Q

The older family run kind of hardware store is the place to go :)

This kind of place

I tend to use stainless for everything astronomy and could never find a UK source.

However Losmandy sell press-on plastic T handles for 3/8" UNC socket-head bolts. From their price list:

T HANDLE 3/8 PLASTIC PRESS ON TEE HANDLE FOR 3/8 BOLTS $1.00

http://www.losmandy.com/pricelist.html

That's what I use.  I suggest buying more than you need as I certainly broke one in the process of pressing it on to the bolt head.

If the postage seems too high you could perhaps email to see if they can send at a lower price via normal US Post Office in a jiffy bag rather than Fedex etc. I've done that with US suppliers before.

Glad you found what you were looking for Mark. It still makes me chuckle on the descriptions though. 3/8" x 200mm. Shouldn't this be 3/8" x 8" 🙄 Also, 3/8"..... what thread? 3/8" BSF, 3/8" BSW, 3/8" UNC, 3/8" UNF..... I could go on...... :)
