Today's Prominences and Minor Active Region in 6562.8A | Jan 8th 2019

Heya,

It's been a while since I saw the sky. Had a little time this morning. Seeing was ok, not great, but better than mid-day. Clouds rolled in, but I managed to get a little bit on those feint prominences around the limb. They're all small. The latest undesignated AR has lost a lot of its activity already, but you can still see it's presence. Fairly minimum disc! But, in HA, there's always something to see. And at higher reoslution, there's always spicules at least.

Ahah! So MalveauX = Wise Imaging?

Now I understand why I watched and enjoyed your 50 minute YT tutorial on solar imaging.
They say a picture is worth a thousand words. Your "pictures" speak volumes for themselves!
Thank you for sharing your remarkable skills with we mortals.

#Sunshine: A sub-aperture D-ERF can be fitted inside the larger instrument to reduce the very high cost.

However, this internal filter does not protect the instrument itself from solar heating as well as an external filter.
The internal D-ERF also reflects and refocuses a "burning" solar image. Imagine a 6" magnifying glass working at F4!
This fiercely hot image is focused several inches outside the dewshield.
Which is a potential safety issue when the sun is very low [winter] and there are innocent people about.
At other times of the year the dewshield [on a larger instrument] would probably be too high to reach with a curious head or hand.

The full aperture, external filter only reflects the sun at normal [sunlight] strength and is arguably, much safer for "public outreach" instruments.
