Astro Imp
Nice work Mike, I always try to view your work, it's always worth seeing. I was looking at this last night and mention in another thread I thought there was a hint of very faint green in the view. Have you seen this ? Hi Alan, I haven't seen the green hue in M78 that you mention, though I see it every time when looking at M42. My site tends to be a little misty and I only use a small aperture scope, but if I do get a really transparent night I'll take a more careful look at M78 to see if I get any hint of colour. Omeara claims there's a 13.1 mag star within the nebula making it a triple. Steady seeing may allow me to see it, though its embedded within the nebula which may make it a struggle. I was really surprised to see the green tint, it looked to me very similar to the green tint of M42 I occasionally see but much, much fainter. Regarding a third star, it was just about there last night but on the verge of not being visible, if that make sense.
