Finder shoe for upgraded sw ed80 focuser?

Hello 

iv recently upgraded my ed80 focuser but there is no shoe on it? What one do I need to get to fit,  as I intend to use a finder guider on it?

Can the shoe not be directly mounted to the focuser itself?? That's a naff design if not?

can you upload a pic? usually you can remove a small grub screw (just a blank with no other purpose) and then use a screw of suitable size. maybe this one as shown?

that said, this puts the finder very low down at zenith so in some ways one further up the tube is better.

belive me mate, ive had a month to think about where to put it and it wouldn't work on the focuser, you wouldn't be able to use a wedge and see through the finder and it would make the finder rotate with the focuser. charl.

The obvious answer is to mount a new finder shoe onto the main scope tube.  

I suppose the easiest way would be to drill a hole(s) in the tube wall and attach it using a bolt. You would need to make sure you unscrew the objective before drilling, use a locking nut on the inside of tube, then paint it matt black.  Alternatively, you could try double-sided adhesive pads to secure the finder shoe, but you'd want some pretty strong adhesive to make sure the shoe doesn't become detached.  Personally, I would bolt it.

The 3m command picture mounting pads are pretty good - easily removable and some hold over a kilo

enough for a finder but possibly not guiding.

or, would a cyanoacrylate adhesive do - save drilling holes, and you can get stuff to dissolve it later.
