Hi. 300mm is great for the Andromeda galaxy and the Orion nebula but anything else will need something with a longer focal length. Why not do more widefield stuff? E.g. 200mm will fit both the orion and the horsehead and 50mm the whole consellation. HTH.

Unless you have a motor on that mount then any really stable tripod would do. If you have no motor then you would be better placed using your widest shortest length lens nearer 18mm end. You might expect 20 second exposure before star trailing using 18mm on your camera lens.
