New observatory project underway..... been a long time coming!

So, little by little I chip away at the project. It's not moving as fast as I'd like, but it is a least progressing.

Added a new entrance into the warm room as there will be no external entrance into the observatory.

Custom built the door and frame for the job. Then I set about cutting a hole in the 5 inch thick wall.

Once I had done this task I could crack on with my walls.

70% of top course to complete before adding roof plate. Hopefully get time to do that tomorrow.

Planning my Obs Building for the spring.  Yours is the first I've seen that does not cement the pier into the ground.  Is your idea to be able to adjust level at the bottom of the pier?  You've got me thinking!  Please tell me more about your pier design.

Thanks for the pictures and good luck with your project.

Tim

Coming along nicely. How did you cut through the walls for the doorway so neatly?

9 inch cutting disc would be my guess.

Bingo!!!  Spot on Ed ?

Hi Tim, I thought my way of bolting it down was standard practice....  Just makes life easy if you make a mistake in pier height and need to replace it ????........ Can you guess what I'm about to say next??? Lol. ??

Well I've managed to start work on the observatory build again and a few ideas have changed, which impact quite severely on where things should be.

Ive decided to move the warm room from inside the existing part of the build to the new part. I've knocked out the dividing wall and removed all traces of old timber (wood lice en all) and removed asbestos roofing. I also have to reposition all electrics and data. And finally I'll need to repour my pier foundation to accommodate the alteration to my pier positions centre point to the now 8' X 8' observatory dimensions.

Wot a palarva!!  ??

Here's a few pics of the build.. with the Forman inspecting ?

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!

I've made a miscalculation! I need to make the opening larger, which isn't a problem but time consuming...! ?? ??

Only forgot to add in the 7" of offset from the polar axis to the saddle. What a difference that makes to things. Oh well, it'll be sorted on Friday.
